Does your ped's last name start with an "E?" We love our ped. and he is retiring at the end of the year. Would also appreciate a similar referral for an open-minded ped. Thx!

Does anyone know of any vaccine lawyers on the Island?

As some of you might know, I'm an RN and therefore mandated by this state to get the flu vaccine now, and later this year the H1N1 vaccines.

I *will not* get the H1N1 and I dont think that the protest in albany did much. I have a religious objection, and my son is religiously exempt from vaxes at school.

I cannot begin to tell you guys how upset I am about this. I'm a single mother--I can't afford to lose my job. But according to NYS there's only a medical exemption for this one. And I can't just claim an allergy to eggs or anything, because my job is requiring a signed document from an *allergist*!

Idk what to do, and my job placed a new deadline--October 4th! Even though NYS's deadline is Nov 30th. I got a slight extention by calling HR, but only by a few days.

If anyone can offer me ANY type of help, please, I'm literally begging. I'm freaking out--I can't sleep at night, my bosses are making my work environment very unpleasant at times and I'm being harassed.

Try to talk to attorney Charles Nicholas, he worked with us on the exemption letter, has office in Baldwin.
good luck

Hi everyone! I haven't posted to this thread in, I think, a year or so. I used to be anniej, but had to change my name.

I am moving back with the kids. We'll be in Baiting Hollow and I'm desperately looking for a job. I am hoping to find something out east, that doesn't have a HUGE commute. If you hear of *anything* could you please drop me a line?

I'm excited to be back and I hope to get together with those of you I know and meet all the new ladies who have joined since I left!

Welcome back, wish you all the best, and keeping fingers crossed for finding a job and a nice nest.

Julie Toner

I've had a birth with Dale before, but Jennifer was Dale's assistant. Has anyone had a birth with Dale and Julie? What was your experience?
We had a great homebirths with Dale three times, first two Jennifer was her assistance, we loved having her here. She was supposed to assist with baby #3, well, baby came out too soon, and Julie was Dale's helper, and i must say it worked out just great. We were all happy.
good luck

API Meeting of Suffolk County

The next API (Attachment Parenting International) Meeting of Suffolk County will be on Thursday October 29 from 10:30 am to 12 noon at the North Shore Public Library. The library is located in Wading River on the south side of 25A, and is just east of the William Floyd Parkway about a quarter mile. It is a great chance to learn, connect, and share with other women. Children are welcome, as well as all caregivers whether mother, father, grandparent, etc. We will focus on the principle: Prepare for pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.

Maria Kata will be the guest speaker and participants will have a chance to visit and share as well. Light snacks are welcome but the library requests that no juice be consumed in the meeting room (or other items that may stain carpet). Art supplies are welcomed - blank paper and crayons work well and a table is set up for children to draw. A small Circle is led for the children when time permits and some calming focus is needed!

Included below is info on our speaker. Please come support API of Suffolk County! Any questions please email Jamie Birdsong-Nieroda, leader of API of Suffolk County, at birdsong27@hotmail.com
Please forward to others who may be interested in Attachment Parenting International!
Thanks and happy autumn!
Jamie

Maria Kata, MS, has been a Certified Bradley® Childbirth Educator since
2003. Prenatal yoga was an integral part of both of her pregnancies and homebirths, leading her to practice yoga regularly and, ultimately, find her path to teaching yoga.

She recently completed an intensive training with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa and is excited to bridge her knowledge of childbirth with the peaceful power of yoga. Her work with Gurmukh focused on creating a deeper and more meaningful spiritual connection with self and between mother and child during pregnancy, labor, and parenthood.

Maria’s gentle approach coupled with her recognition that each woman's birth experience is a source of empowerment provide an inspiring atmosphere in which to nourish yourself throughout your journey to motherhood.

new on the island

Hi LI Mamas!

I have just moved to Suffolk County and am lookin' for my tribe! I can't believe this thread is 100 pages long, but I am so glad to see there are recent posts here.

We have a *gasp* non-vaccinated baby girl, and of course are looking for a non-vax friendly pediatritian. any suggestions? can you PM me?

and also, we are in temporary housing and will have to find an apartment or house soon. Where do all the crunchy people live around here?

thanks in advance for your help!!

BoobsOfSteel -

Where in Suffolk County are you located? I'm in the Western Suffolk area.

The ped I use who is very vax friendly (I don't vax) is Dr. Nina Tomei. Here's her info:
241 East Main Street
Huntington, NY 11743
(631) 367-5300

I'm not sure where all the crunchy people are but I can definately tell you they are NOT in the western suffolk area!

Prenatal yoga classes

Hello mammas,

I don't really post much here but I'm always reading your posts, where I have found great information.

I'm currently pregnant with baby no. 2. My first DD was a c-section but now I'm going for a VBAC (crossing fingers) with Susan Brockman.

Anyhow, I'm currently looking for prenatal yoga classes in nassau...any recommendations?

And since I already started this post I also wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations for pre-k schools?

Thanks ladies

Hi, thanks for the ped reco.

I guess I'm in the mid-Suffolk area, and we are thinking of buying/renting in southern Suffolk.

I hope to meet some of you at the AP meeting next week!

BoobsOfSteel- welcome to LI! hope you will find a great community to settle in.Well, i'm not so sure if finding exactly crunchy crowd in one place might be possible, but who knows.I've been on the search since we moved here for last 6 years and so far i've found nice crowed of ap/natural mamas mainly through mothering forum... all of them scattered across LI, really wish to have them closer together. But from what i know it seams like there is more some kind of crunchiness around Huntington, where you can find health food stores, yoga classes, meditation spots or out east, but i'm sure there is more then that, it just has to.i hope.
Also we live in Lindenhurst, south shore, but we hike to Huntington to see our ped dr.Nina Tomei - she is really great.
Good luck to you and hope to meet one day.We are very open to playdates
