35+ Mamas

Any 35+ mamas out there? We've got all sorts of extra "risk factors" - at least, according the popular medical opinion... and of course, there are the relatives... "Aren't you sort of old to be having a baby?"

I am 36 now, will be 37 when this one arrives. My first was born when I was 35.

And I'm 44. Just turned, so I'll still be 44 when the babe's born.

Are you doing any screening???? I SO struggle with this!!! I have to see a perinatologist for possible blood clotting issues and he already asked me if I'll be doing the first trimester screen. I just don't know!!

I'm 38 and the baby is due 2 days after my 39th birthday.

DD was born when I was 35.

My SIL is currently pregant with her second. She's 41. First was born when she was 39.

My grandmother had her last of 8 at 43 (my mom) and 44 (my aunt). Her last prior to that was at 38.

No, I'm not. Well...ultrasound at 20 weeks, and unless something's changed, they'll confirm the pregnancy with ultrasound. To me, it all depends on what you'd do with the information, and whether you want added worry/risk.

no screening for me either...

I'll be 35 when this little one arrives. I'm not planning on any screening.

I'll be 37 when my little one arrives. I was 31 with my first, so it has been six years since my last pregnancy.

Yeah! Glad to find all of you! I work in a clinic where there are many teen pregnancies (as a matter of fact I worked with a 16 year old today who has a 2 year old, just like I do!) and live in a town where most people have kids very young...so I've felt like a very old mama. My co-worker did just have her 5th at age 43, so I know I'm not the only one having kids later. I did sort of obsess about wanting to have the 2nd one before I turn 37, as I have some health issues that make me a high risk pregnancy. I am about 5 weeks pregnant which should make my due date about 3 weeks before I turn 37! How's that for timing!!!

Hi everyone! I just found out I'm pg and I'll be 38 when the baby arrives. I am definitely a little more apprehensive this time. My first was born when I was 34 and he was perfect. I am really nervous about rolling the dice again, but not necessarily b/c I'm closing in on forty (I just don't know how lucky I'll be this time). Anyway, I'm glad to find you all, I hate that docs get so nervous about us "old folks" procreating. Oh, I do plan on getting nuchal fold screening (as I did for DS), but probably nothing else.

I'm 36 now and will be 37 when this baby is born. However, the whole AMA bit is actually one of the least of my worries regarding this pg, lol. And I already have a sweet little one with an extra chromosome (conceived when I was 33), so I'm no longer particuarly worried about the age of my eggs; if that's going to happen, it will happen regardless of age, as I've already discovered.

I am considering the nucal fold scan this time around (mostly b/c I'm concerned about possible heart defects), but haven't made any final decision yet. Not considering any other testing.
