I love "This American Life" with Ira Glass

and all the NPR "shows"---

Most of the ones I listen to are either for my kids or spiritually related. But from those two categories my favorites are:

Dr. Floyd.
Quote:
The Radio Adventures Of Dr. Floyd has steadily built listenership with wacky tales of the World’s Most Brilliant Scientist, Dr. Floyd, as he races through history, hot on the heels of his arch nemesis, Dr. Steve. The show is breaking ground in the world of family entertainment and is in development as a TV Show and Feature Film.

Druidcast.
A Druid podcast brought to you by the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids.

Both are very well produced and available in iTunes.

I love love love Croncast (which is now over, but here are 500 archived episodes) and Life in the Can (same people, new show). They're two very funny people with two small kids, podcasting from their basement several times a week. She thrifts for profit and is a SAHM. He's a tech geek. I love love love the show.

Note, however, that some of the AP moms here might be unhappy with some of their parenting decisions/practices.

I like short stories and science fiction, so most of my podcasts are for that.

Escape Pod
Podcastle
Cory Doctorow's Craphound

Also, SpanishPod 101 for learning spanish. And Cody's Cuentos, which is a series of fairy tales in Spanish.

Podiobooks.com <- Burn, Shadowmagic, and Playing for Keeps have all been excellent.

I also like both of the They Might Be Giants podcasts. One is just music, generally about 20 minutes worth, and the other is a family/kids music video.

Podcasts are free downloadable stories, talk shows, etc. that you listen to on your ipod. They are on itunes.com.

If you listen to NPR radio shows, or other programs on public radio, they usually will make a podcast of it. That way, it's recorded, and you can listen to it anytime you want.

does that make sense?

(see my new u/n )

I also like Wil Wheaton's Radio Free Burrito, though he's not consistent on putting them up. He's also got a potty mouth kinda, so if that offends you, steer clear, but he cracks me up in all his geekiness

Of course, This American Life. There are more, but we listen to them on dh's computer usually while we do other stuff, so I'm drawing a blank on names. I know I have some on my ipod, too, that I like, but baby just fell asleep on me and I'm not chancing moving her

I just started listening to Zencast -- really good if you're interested in Buddhism. I'm not Buddhist, but I love the whole philosophy (helps with my parenting). They also include some very cool music....

I also like Ricky Gervais & Steven Merchants podcasts... I think they've done just a few, but Ricky Gervais is brilliant (he's the guy who created The Office, the original British version...)

Apologia
Astronomy Cast
Good Atheist
Infidel Guy Show
Skeptic's guide to the Universe
The Atheist Experience
Non Prophets
Radio Lab
Point of Inquiry
Dogma Free America

Open Source
On the Media
(I think I am just starting to repeat NPR show names at this point)

And again, there are so many NPR shows that kick butt, and radio free america.

And as much as I hate spending money, it is so worth paying for the ricky gervais show. The first three seasons. Then they had some free ones, then another one for a fee. But the first 3 were awesome. All are awesome. I laugh my butt off every time I listen. And it is Karl (Carl?) Pilkington that makes the show. That man. Brilliant idiot!
