Less movement?

I'm 39w 1d and it seems I'm feeling less movement than I have been. Is this common so close to the end? I went 2 weeks early with my first dd so I never got this far along.

I am a little worried because my mom lost a baby at birth because she was over due (she was my age as well, 37) and the baby had swallowed the meconin and from what I remember aspirated on it???? I was 15 at the time, but I was at the birth and remember how devastating the entire event was.

I have an appointment today, so I'm guessing I'll be re-assured that all is just fine.....but I'm still worrying!

You should feel something though, what if you poke baby?

This baby is more active this late than my first, but it's movement vs kicks.

Oh I feel some, just not as much as I did last week. Like today I was waiting after I ate breakfast to feel something and didn't feel anything (and usually as soon as I'm done eating movement starts) so I had some OJ and layed down on the couch. I finally poked her some and got some responses. So I don't know if she is just resting up for the big day that must be SOON! LOL or if she is just so low it is hard for her to move like she had been.

I too feel mostlly movement though and not really jabs or kicks.

Things are pretty cramped in there and there are tons of things that can affect how you feel movement.

I wouldn't say that the movements are less now that I'm 40w, but they are different. More nudges and wiggles than rolls and punches. If the baby was posterior before and has flipped to anterior, you may feel less movement or movement only on one side of your belly. Of course, now (just like newborns) the baby will have sleepy days where they just don't move as much as they normally do.

Drink or eat something high in sugar (juice works well), then lay down and relax. You should feel movement before long. If you keep trying this and don't feel any movement then you should call your practitioner.

I've felt quite a bit of rolling, but only 2 kicks in the past 3 weeks or so.

I think with the uterus pushing the legs in now it's like the baby's swaddled.

I had a meltdown this morning over the same thing. Baby has been moving less, but I hadn't felt anything last night, and woke up this morning, fretting. I poked, I prodded, I drank cold juice, lay on my side...nothing. I took a shower and was freaking out-pleading with the baby. Sure enough, just as I was picking up the phone to call the MW, he/she started moving, thank goodness.

Don't they always seem to do this?! If i haven't felt babe for awhile I'm jabbing and massaging my belly where i think the feet are trying to provoke movement. it takes a long time and then suddenly, when I'm starting to feel a small amount of panic... movement...

I've had the same the past 2 wks... convinces me labor is close or things are just *really* cramped! I think it's normal... I keep poking and drinking juice as well.

Hugs to everyone, it's frustrating then scary I'm having the same issues, too. I know he's a little chubster and I'm only 5'1 so the poor babe has no room whatsoever. I was posting at PAL how the movements are almost fluid-like now, no sharp jabs or kicks anymore. Maybe labor's right around the corner for us!!!

That happened to me four days ago, for two straight days he was very quiet. The following morning I ate a really high protein breakfast and juice and he didn't stop moving the entire day (like his normal self). no more kicks, but he loves to push his feet out of my side and punch my cervix haha.
