Would you get this for 4 y.o. DD if....

My dd's 4th b-day is coming soon. Her favorite thing to do it play dress up, pretend to cut hair, etc. She lives in a make believe world and never stops pretending.

But, she is already very dramatic and girly so I'm not sure if I should encourage more of this by getting her a vanity set.

This vanity set is on sale half off though and it matches the little kitchen she has in her room.

If your dd was already very girly and wanted to play with make-up etc., would you get her a vanity set?

I think it's adorable, and I bet your DD will love it! :

Oh, I don't let her play with real makeup. She has some makeup brushes and empty containers to pretend. This vanity set comes with some pretend items like lipstick.

I'd get it, but hold on to the pretend lipstick, etc, until DD is much older. I am all for pretend, but I feel that it instills the idea that made-up faces are somehow prettier.

I would! Look how cute it is!

...although I don't have a dd (wah), so I adore anything girly like this.

All those little cubbies/drawers would be perfect for holding little necklaces & bracelets, etc., if she is so into dress up...or hair clippies...It doesn't have to be all about makeup.

I figured the cubbies would be a good place to store jewelry too....she does have a lot of it.

Holding on to the lipstick is a good idea....

If we had the room for it, I would.

I would! My DD has a vanity set. She even has some makeup. She sees me putting on makeup all the time for work and she likes to get into my makeup bag. I've never forbidden it so she does put real makeup on. I got her some play makeup so that she would stop messing up mine.

My dd received something similar at four. She is now seven and that thing is going strong. It is still used as a vanity but has spent time as a coffee stand, worker desk, castle, hairdresser and theatre dressing room. My only advice would be to keep a very close watch on the scissors in your house for a bit. You know how the line between pretend and reality can blur in the face of such a beautiful vanity!

With that great sale, I'd go for it if it won't bother *you*. DD got a vanity from my B&SIL that I hated, but she didn't really like it either (Except to climb on). If DD had actually used it a lot, I think it would have bothered me. I'm really not into the women's "beautification" rituations.

To clarify, the pretend lipstick is actually wooden, it wouldn't leave marks. My kids have loved "lip gloss" (chapstick) forever.

Absolutely! It's very cute!

What if you gave it to her with a face painting book? Then it wouldn't be so much about "sit in front of the mirror and make yourself pretty".

absolutely! and what a great price! maybe i WILL get one for my dd!

I would. It's a cute vanity set. You could substitute fake make-up or have a rule limiting where make-up can be, like in the house only or for dress up only. I don't think that letting her use makeup occassionaly will send a bad message if the overall message in the house is that it is for fun and not something adults have to wear because they are ugly. Even if you restrict make-up, if she gets a message at home about make-up being for older people to make them beautiful that message will have a far greater impact on her than the fact that you restrict make-up for her.

I think it's beautiful! I'd absolutely get it for her.

I absolutely would! I think it's adorable. I know my 4 year old would love it.

Definitely, very cute!

That is really cute! I agree about holding off on the lipstick, but you could always call it "chapstick" and she wouldn't know the difference
