"Like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films -- changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of," he said. "We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tentpole release for midsummer."

There's a petition to get the release date changed back.

bummer.

Also, the trailer for this one seems so weak in comparison with previous films. Like it's just a throwaway film cuz it's next to the last...

I doubt it now. Twilight has been pushed up to a release on the same date, and I *highly* doubt the studio would go for that kind of competition.

I've expected the last few to be weak for a long time. They started the movies without really knowing where the books were going to go, and left out and altered too many little things. For example, the house elves, except for Dobby, have been almost completely ignored in the movies. Hermione's whole "SPEW" campaign was barely touched on. These things didn't seem like a big deal, and they're not...exactly. Unfortunately, they do have bearing on the whole issue of how the wizards treat the other magical races, which becomes important in the last book. There's so much that they need to stuff into the last two movies, and I don't think they're going to be able to pull it off even remotely decently. I'd have to see Order of the Phoenix again to be sure (we own the other four), but I don't think the movie addressed the Harry-Voldemort connection adequately, either.

I'll watch the last two, but I'm not expecting much. Goble of Fire was a muddled mess, imo...and Order of the Phoenix was worse. I just don't see how they can possibly pull into back into a solid, coherent story at this point.

I was just getting excited that it was around the corner- I can't believe I have to wait a year now.

My dd (9) is SO bummed. She has been planning a Harry Potter party for November! She had one for her bday in March and it was so much fun!

The move was made to take advantage of an open weekend in Hollywood's busy summer season, said Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer. The film had been on schedule, and the change was not due to any production snags, he said.

"The picture is completely, absolutely, 100 percent on schedule, on time. There were no delays," Horn told The Associated Press. "I've seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November."

I hate Warner Brothers. Here's hoping WB will someday, before I die, let someone turn Harry Potter into a miniseries. Spend, like, six hours on each book. Include each and every detail.
