Diaper Goddesses~Newbie with ???

I am new to making my own cloth diapers... And absolute love all the ones you have made.... so adorable

Not sure if I am missing something.... Read threw the posts and my questions still weren't answered.

You make these adorable diapers out of cute fabrics.... and you still need a cover????

Can the covers be avoided if I put PUL on the inside??? Any other things you can use other than PUL and still NOT need a cover???

I haven't been able to get my hands on any PUL... is there any other suggestions to use or where to find it???

OK, this is what I know-

Yes, some make cute adorable diapers that still need a cover. Keep in mind that some/if not most of the time when at home a cover may not be used.

Yes, a cover can be avoided if you use a layer of PUL inside- these kinds of diapers are called All-In-Ones or AIOs. I'm not sure about using anything else in place of PUL.

If it's a cute fitted diaper or embellished prefold, yeah, it gets covered up with a cover. Seems counterintuitive, doesn't it? But there's still that feeling of satisfaction seeing a couple dozen adorable fluffy fitteds, fresh out of the dryer and stacked on the shelf. Also, some people use a cover only if they go out of the house.

Yes, it's possible to put a cute print as the outside layer, over a layer of PUL, and then you won't need a cover. If it's a cotton print, it's more prone to wick the moisture to the outside though. You might also use a PUL print -- a piece of cute fabric that has been "PUL-ized." My favorite place for those is http://www.diapercuts.com/

Fleece is also fairly water-resistant and can be used in place of PUL. Waterproof nylon taffeta works too and is cheaper than PUL, but it feels sort of like a windbreaker. http://www.neptunefabrics.com/ sells that. Also, there's a fabric called ProCare that you can get from http://www.wazoodle.com/. It's cheaper than PUL too, but feels sort of vinyl-y.

PUL can only really be found online. Watch out, though -- some of the stores charge a lot more for shipping than others do.

I have found diapercuts to be a pretty expensive place to get PUL (jme).
I would recommend www.celticcloths.com for 2ml, or www.verybaby.com for 1ml PUL if you want to get it retail (about $10/yd). If you have the time to wait for a co-op, that is the cheapest option.
