Anyone volunteering? Do you know if they're still in need of volunteers? I missed the first meeting this week

For anyone interested in attending B.I.R.T.H. Fair (bringing information and resources to houston), it's going to be Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, more info found here

The play Birth on labor day is going to be held this year at

7pm Saturday, September 6 @ South Montgomery County Community Center
7pm Friday, September 12 @ HITS Theater
7pm Saturday, September 13 @ HITS Theater
2pm Sunday, September 12 @ HITS Theater (Red Tent following at 7pm)

Anyone going to either event?

I plan on going. They do need volunteers, though. I'll see if I can find the email of who to contact.

What's it all about anyways? I saw that it's educational, but it's a show too??? Someone tell me more...you've sparked my interest!

I want to attend this! Anyone know what the admission fee is, and will there be a schedule available of all the speakers and events throughout the day?

Admission is $10. The red tent event is immediately following the Sept. 14th play.

From the op's link: "Birth is a play based on over one hundred interviews Karen Brody conducted with mothers across America who gave birth between 2000-2004. It tells the true stories of 8 women painting a portrait of how low-risk, educated women are giving birth in America today."

Here's more info on the red tent: http://www.boldaction.org/redtent/index.html

thanks mamavegan, I sent an email to volunteer@houbirth.org to find out if I needed to resubmit a volunteer application. And I'm planning on going to the meeting Aug 26.

Well the B.I.R.T.H. fair is free & The BOLD show is $10. The fair has tons of wonderful AP(ish) vendors; there is usually a fashion show; and their are tons of wonderful speakers throughout the day who talk about all different issues (ie...babywearing/cloth diapering/vacc'ing/vbacs....)

This is the first time in 3yrs that DH and I are not volunteering. I am due sometime in Sept and if baby is late -- don't want to have to cancel on everyone. IF babe is ontime or early though we will def. be attending!

I definitely am interested...I could probably do the show in the Woodlands. And I might drag my prego friend to the Fair.

Thanks for the info!

Both the BIRTH Fair and the BOLD play are great things to "drag" you preggo friends to. They usually have a schedule of the speakers for the Fair up on the website closer to the date. The Red Tent event is great too.

The only reason I say 'drag' is because she's not at all APish and I'm trying to convert her! (Like she thinks I'm completely insane for wanting a HBAC!)

I went to the play last year. It was SOOOO good! I had a great time! I am so very sad that we no longer live in the Houston area so I cannot attend this year.

Okay, maybe it's just too late for me to be trying to read, but... is this going on in September or in October? Or are those two completely different things? I'm lost...
Yes, two completely separate events. The play "Birth" also known as BOLD (birth on labor day), because it is usually performed around the country on Labor Day Weekend is in September.

The BIRTH Fair, is in October.

It does get a little confusing, Birth play, Birth Fair...

Okay, thanks for the explanation... someone will have to bump this thread when it gets closer, or I'll totally forget...

I was going to volunteer but my school schedule conflicts with it

Drag me, I'll go! Seriously, we're in H-town now and I really want to go. DH went to one years ago and I know I probably won't get him to come along again.

I may be going with a friend, but last year I went alone.

I'm childless as of yet, but when I went last year there were children everywhere - babies, toddlers, older kids
