My son has been suffering from some pretty bad teething lately. He bites down on my nipple at least 3 times a day lately. Awhile ago I would just smoosh him in and we would let go. Now he bites down harder. No blood or breakthrough yet, but I want him to learn to not do it. He's nine months old...4 teeth already, and I guess some big ones coming soon.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Put him down for 5 min or so and make sure you say some thing along the lines of "No biting. That hurts Mommy." I also recommend keeping at least one fingernail trimmed down so you can use that to unlatch him when he bites. I actually kept my pinky nails trimmed down all the time when it was really bad. Make note if he bites at certain times - such as when he's about done nursing - and then unlatch him before he gets a chance to bit you. I have also pinched my DC nose closed to get her to unlatch. Some times she just opens her lips to let air in and smiles at me with her fangs sinking in.
And some times she pinches her own nose when I tell her to unlatch.

Aaah humor in our pain.
I have so far done the "No biting. That hurts mommy." I put him down too. He laughs when I say that! Well, hopefully it doesn't last forever.
THanks for the response. Good luck to you...and me too.

I am going through the same problem...just started today. She is 11 months and has top and bottom teeth......it hurts. I am hoping it was b/c she wasn't really wanting to nurse. I just said no biting and put her down.

My DS just started this today. He doesn't have any teeth yet but he's definitely working on it. He laughed at me too when i said no biting. Hmmmm. Why is that funny?

I have to take her off when she stops actively feeding or she will get bored and bite. I screamed once in pain and she laughed too.

Yes, my son is still biting down. I've tried various things, but so far nothing works. I like the pinching nose thing, but it's after he bites so.... Lately I'm starting to get better at catching it before he goes to bite although every time he feeds I get a little anxiety. No cutting through my skin yet....thank goodness!
