I gave birth on Tuesday...

Hey I wanted to update and say I had the baby for my best friend on Tuesday. 12 hour labor (my last was 31.5, so 12 was GREAT!), 7am on the dot to 7pm on the dot -- kinda freaky. She was 7lb 8oz at birth and 22". Born in my basement.

Labor and birth went splendidly, but I did end up hemorrhaging and transporting to the hospital shortly after midnight ER physician and nurses were great, and non-judgmental. Postpartum ward OB and nurses were a bit more... "abrasive" we'll call it. I know my UC did not "cause" my hemorrhage, and I wouldn't do it any other way. I would have had the same problem had I had her in the hospital.

My hemoglobin is extremely low (in the 7s) so I am exhausted. I hope everyone here is doing well!!!

Congratulations! :

Did they give you any blood or are you going to build your blood back up yourself? I've heard transfusions are scary but make you feel better fast.

Take care of yourself and be proud, you did an amazing thing.

Congrats! I'm glad things went well. When you get a chance, and if you are willing to share, how are arrangements going to work for the baby? Are you going to pump or anything like that?

I did have a transfusion of two units of blood. It didn't really help, though. My hemoglobin went up a point, and then back down. I am just trying to cram in the iron now via supplements and food.

I had a breast reduction in 1990, and only made about 4oz a day MAX with my son. This time around, I couldn't even express colostrum in the last couple weeks, or after her birth. I did suckle her a bit to try to get my uterus to clamp down, but I doubt she got anything from it, and she was getting angry about it heheheh. Even now, 4 days later, I am not feeling anything coming in, so pumping probably wouldn't do much anyway. The babe is getting breastmilk, though. We have a friend who was a surrogate for a little boy born a few months ago, and she is a SUPERPRODUCER. She is shipping milk to his daddies, and also saving the surplus for Myrtle. I think I heard that my best friend has like 380+oz of BM in her freezer so far

Congratulations Amy!!! I hemmoraged too, I've been on iron for two weeks now, and really didn't feel any better the first week at all, but then into the second week started to feel better. Now I am feeling MUCH better, you will get there! TAKE IT EASY--the hemoglobin is nothing to mess with. It definitely takes a while to build back up. They haven't retested me yet b/c they said it wouldn't be higher yet? Although I definitely FEEL much much much better than I did. AND--I would definitely rec taking a stool softener or something with all the iron!!! Well done, mama!

That's awesome about the donation. I'm working up a freezer stash for donation right now too. I wish I had a big deep freeze to keep it in but I only have a regular fridge freezer right now. So I'll do what I can!
