Eating Healthy!

I am ashamed today. I admit it. I ate a Boston Creme donut for breakfast and then had pizza rolls and a pepsi for lunch. If you knew me in real life your jaw would DROP! I am such a hypocrite. I don't eat much sugar, I don't like processed foods, and I sure as HELL don't drink SODA!

I can't let myself fall into the trap of cravings. I want to eat healthy again.
I ate a very clean Traditional Foods diet all the while nursing my son but in May when we weaned I started eating crap again. Its rediculous.

So share with me some of the yummy healthy things you are eating.

Some things I plan on:

breakfast: eggs eggs eggs (fried, in a nest, scrambled, hard boiled, omelets)
morning snack: power smoothie with yogurt/veggies/fruits/supplements
lunches: salads, stirfries & noodles
afternoon snack: nuts, fruit, crackers and cheese, cereal w/milk
dinners: I usually make a meat/starch/veggie
dessert: probably ice cream. I can't resist after the tot is in bed!!

oooh i would love it if people could share their fav smoothie recipes with us! we just got a new blender :P .... as for the eating, i think mine has been fairly healthy- but im going to let myself cave to a craving every now and then. thai food was my weakness while pg with dd. i have been non- stop hungry this week though, which is sort of freaking me out because im only 4 weeks pg. how bad is it going to be at 30 weeks?? lol. i might start setting up a fruit/ veggie tray to leave on our dining table on the weekends and afternoons when im home so that i'm not snacking on fatty foods. yogurt is a good one for me too. we have a brand here (cant remember the name of) that is very low sugar, low fat, and high in protein and calcium. anyone know if there are there any good natural nutrition/ cookbooks out there for pregnancy?

I hear ya. I've been craving milkshakes all the time! Not a pregnancy craving, I've been drinking them all summer! I've been a fast-food junkie really.

But turning over a new leaf...

I do have eggs for breakfast nearly every day because they're so god for DS. We had huevos rancheros today. Usually its just scrambled with wheat toast. Coffee, or now decaf of course.

Smoothies might be a nice substitution for milkshakes- fresh fruit and yogurt and juice or soy milk. I drank a lot of smoothies with my first pregnancy.

Lunch is where I poop out and end up getting junk, so I need to make an effort to plan lunches and either cook or throw together a sandwich or pita or something.

Dinner we usually do OK, a protein, starch, and vegetable.

I eat oatmeal with cinnamon every morning for breakfast, made with milk... eggs once in a while. Although I should eat more eggs. I just have to put ketchup on them, and well, then what's the point?

Lunch is usually some sort of salad-thing... chicken salad, tuna salad...

Dinner is whatever I'm making for everyone else... usually something meaty with a veggie and a salad (we do very few starches 'cuz dh is diabetic...)

I keep lots of fruit on hand for snacking and desserts... for a treat I'll whip cream myself and put it over strawberries with some stevia... mmmm!

I hear you, lotus.bossom! I had also been eating a pretty good TF diet...but now I'm totally always craving junk food, it's really, really, really bad! I need to get my self control back though, and jump on the TF wagon again. I hope this thread will help motivate me!!

We'll keep each other motivated Melanie!

I think part of my problem was that I went on a low fat diet to lose some weight that hung on while nursing and then when I lost it and got back to "normal" eating I was fat starved and started wanting junk. I think if I move back towards free range meats (mmmmmm, bacon!) and homemade treats with raw honey or maple syrup then I will be satiated and not scrounging around for junk.

I've been doing well eating my eggs every day. I've been craving fast food real bad...I've only give in to it a few times, so that's good.

Hey, I not in your DDD, but had to respond with a delicious smoothie recipe that's perfectly healthy for mom and the rest of the family :.

Just use whatever seems right of these ingredients:

Organic Flax Seeds (whole) (I use Spectrum brand and keep in refrig after opened
Organic Rice Drink (get from T'J's)
Organic Blueberries-frozen (again from TJ's)
Organic Bananas 2-3 (T.J's)
Organic Peaches or Apples (whatevers in season)

and blend, blend, blend. My family loves this and it's sweet enough without adding any additional sweetners.

I tried to eat eggs every morning for breakfast, but I just can't do it every day. Sometimes, for some reason eggs can make me a little queasy in the morning if I eat too early (and during the week, I'm usually having breakfast around 7:30-8). I've been doing oatmeal with fruit and a touch of brown sugar (so far fresh peaches are my fave). The oatmeal I get is really good whole oats. Made by a company called Snoqualmie. I've been craving dairy like crazy. Especially yogurt and ice cream. I don't normally eat dairy, tho, so I'm sort of feeling at a loss for what to do. I don't believe that cow dairy is particularly good for humans and I'd rather not eat it, but it seems to be what I want all the time. I'd drink goat's milk, but I really don't like it just to drink (tho I'll use it for cooking) and I'm allergic to soy. Should I just let myself eat yogurt? Sigh. I think it would help with the constant indigestion, too. (I do take extra calcium in addition to my Prenatal).

Pizza rolls sound too greasy to me... but chocolate... oh chocolate... I want chocolate!

Maybe we should post what we ate each day... just for motivation?

What, like motivation to eat? I don't need much more. Especially with all this talk of ice cream and pizza rolls! :

hehe, the pizza rolls were verrrrrry salty! Now, chocolate is something I can do without! I have turned into a vanilla girl. Weird.

I did SO good today.
breakfast: Had homemade ww waffles w/raspberries from my backyard
snack: 1/2 a red pepper, cantalope
lunch: 4 tacos w/all the fixins
afternoon snack: vanilla soft serve (oh well.)
dinner: hmmmmmm i should think about that!

Like, motivation to eat more healthy!

I'm having major food aversions... just reading about all the foods on the post is making me queasy! I'm having aversions to proteins -- I can't imagine eating meat, eggs or dairy (I almost gagging just typing those out!), but I'm eating some beans and some tofu once and a while. Mostly I'm eating complex carbs, fruits and veggies. I'm worried that I am not getting enough protein/calcium (especially since I'm nursing), but I can't really help it right now.

Well, I broke down and drank chocolate milk today. Don't think I'll be doing that again. After not eating dairy (except at the occasional dinner party in very light amounts) for 8 months that went over like a ton of bricks. Totally not worth it.

Mexican. I have had a weakness for everything Mexican with this pg so far. I've tried to use cabbage, clinetro & fresh veggies to add some nutritional value. And refried beans can't be that bad for ya, right?

Breakfast: whole grain waffle w/ peanut butter, cereal, kefir, fruit
Lunch: pasta salad w/ veggies, frozen meals (try to stay on the healthy side)
Dinner: Mexican anything, chicken wraps, fish
Snacks: Crackers w/ pb, dried mango (great for energy), fruit, pumpkin seeds, Garden Harvest Apple Cinn Toasted chips YUM.
Desert: Ice cream w/ banana or blue berries

With my last pg I craved fast food all.the.time. not so much this time (so far).
