uccomama i thought in his books he said that chocolate wasn't good because of the natural chemicals and that he suggests to use carob instead? just wondering because i'm still undecided about chocolate for me even the raw stuff - whenever i eat raw chocolate i immediatly start craving it and i find that i will get physical withdrawls like headache and nausea if i stop eating it. it gives me such a boost but i feel so bad afterwards. thats even just eating a small amount of one of someone like shazzies raw chocolate bars! its so annoying because it really helps me when i feel depressed - like yesterday because the weather in england is like winter and i'm getting no sunshine so feel like i've got SAD and need chocolate!! (same today so i'll just have to have more chocolate and deal with the after affects later ;-(

so does Aajonus believe that raw chocolate is a good health food? if it does have a drug like affect is that good? this is what i'm wondering as dd is begging for chocolate and i'm scared to try her with it in case it backfires with her too.

bluebell, he wrote an article about chocolate in one of his newsletters. PM me your email addy and I will pass it on to you, its a pdf file. In the newsletter, he talks about how even though he has been on a raw food diet for so long and no longer has additctions, he still has cravings which he attributes to nutritional deficiencies. He eats raw chocolate made with raw cocoa beans blended with raw egg, fat (butter and a little raw cream) and unheated honey and he has not experienced any addiction to it. He found this wasn't the case when eating the same mixture with raw carob beans, he did become addicted to it.

He says that:

In micro amounts, raw theobromine, caffine and theophyline stimulate creative thought processes..
That's a good enough excuse to eat raw chocolate right there!

He feels that most people on a raw diet could safely consume around two tablespoons of pure cocoa beans weekly blended with raw egg, six tablespoons of raw fat and some unheated honey without any harm. It also said they might benefit with increased energy, mental activity and creativity!

He also has a couple of raw chocolate recipes:

Aajonus' Natural Bitter Chocolate and Aajonus' raw organge chocolate cheesecake in the newsletter also.

I spoke to my mum yesterday and she was moaning about the crappy weather you have had in England summer, so I can understand why you need to take to the chocolate!

I eat a little high quality dark chocolate every now and then. Not every day, and like one small square at a time, per day. I have the willpower to do that, DH not so much. There is this particular kind I like from whole foods, but it's not cheap and I only indulge every now and then. I've read there are antioxidants in chocolate. I guess if you are going to indulge in something sweet, you could do a lot worse than some high quality dark chocolate.
