alternative to sunsreen?

Question for everyone? What do you use for sunscreen for your babies? We put sunsreen on DD (waterbabies brand) once and her skin immediately got bright red and she started sreaming until we washed it off, I felt so bad!
So, anyway, we went to the zoo this weekend and her arm got a little red from the sun exposure. (we're down in florida so its still warm). Is there anything that's milder to use for sunsreen? She's a very HOT baby and whenever we dress her warmly she sweats terribly, so I don't know if having her in long sleeves is a good option until its a bit cooler. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

YES YES YES!!!!!! That EXACT reaction happened to my dd the first time we used sunscreen on her. She was about 10months and she turned bright red and blotchy and was droolign and screaming bloody murder until I washed it off. Waterbabies is terrible stuff. What spf did you use, if you don't mind me asking??? I used the 45spf since I have a little irish redhead baby. I was told by the pedi that it's because the spf was so high that she reacted. Don't know if that's accurate or not but that's what I was told. I immediately went to Aubrey Organics Green Tea sunblock that I bought in my local co-op. it's a bit pricey but no reaction from dd so it was worth it. I believe it's only about 15spf though. I use this sunblock on both her and I and as long as I reapply during the day we are fine. No sunburns, no reactions. My daughter is also a very HOT baby. She overheats like no other if I put long sleeves and such on her during the summer. That wasn't an option for us. I would have liked to avoid the chemicals in sunblock but there wasn't anyway we could. We needed to either wear long sleeves and hats and long pants, keep her inside constantly, or use sunblock. I chose sunblock. Good luck on this. Maybe try a lower spf. That might help. I am not sure if she really reacted to the spf or to the actual Waterbabies formula so I can't really help you on that. Sorry.
Meg(she's allergic to only that sunblock and to dairy, no other allergies that I am aware of, in case that helps you.)

Great! Thanks, I'm going to try that product that you tried. Yes, it was the 45 spf stuff....but I think I'm going to get away from it completely and try what you tried. Funny....DD also has a sensitivity to dairy!!

You may want to eat lots more green leafy veggies.

A friend of mine has tried this and it works, she eats a big salad every day for lunch and adds liquid chlorophyll to her water. She never burns. Even on a vacation to FLA. Her nursling wouldn't burn either when fully bfed, so i guess she got protection thru the milk.

I like the sunscreen made by Natural Bodycare. You can search their site at www.nbusa.com for the sunscreen. It is not waterproof so you would need to reapply more often (every hour or so). You should really check out the junky ingredients of the sunscreens available in the regular stores. There is some scary stuff out there that I am sure no one wants on their angel babies or themselves.

Ditto on the Aubrey Green Tea Sunblock, our whole family uses it. I personally use St. Johnswort oil that I sun infuse and it works for me but I'm nervous about trying it on my babe so I stick with what I know works.

I use the Aubrey Green Tea Sunblock, too. My MIL teaches swimming lessons. That means during the summer my kids (the youngest was 6 months at the time) were in the pool all the time. I am very pleased with this brand.
