I am meeting with the school in next week to discuss DS's issues (mostly behavioral), but this will certainly be something that needs to be dealt with. His school is just a K-2 primary school.

Wowzers! Yeah, I'd say he'll be bored (and probably act out more?) if he's required to complete only 2nd grade math work.
My ds is also "young for his age" (immature) but has very strong reading skills. I wonder if it is typical for social immaturity and advanced academic skill (intelligence?) to be evident in the same person? I feel like ds is often "in his own world" and I wonder if that lends itself to a lot of inward thinking...I'm kind of rambling..
Interesting thread, I'm a teacher as well, but they really don't teach a lot of differentiating instruction to include gifted kids in school. We spent a lot of time on least restrictive environment for sped kids but not the other way around.
As a teacher, I would want to know about a child's aptitudes so that I didn't waste their time trying to figure out where they were at.
