It really depends.
If you use a high nitrogen fertilizer, or fertilize too often, you'll get a wonderfully bushy plant, but peppers.
If you're in a cold climate (or at least one this year), the peppers never get hot enough. You can try making mini hot-houses out of stakes and plastic.
I've never heard the match trick, but I'm going to give it a try. I makes sense though. Matches are high in sulfer and posphorus which are necessary for good flowering and fruit production. Thanks!
