s/o kind of...Why on earth do people still eat at McDonalds - Page 16

I think everyone is one the right track here: because it's quick, cheap, and it tastes good. If you're starving and have $5.00 in your pocket, you're pretty grateful that McDonald's exists, and for some people, that scenario occurs pretty regularly. I personally think McDonald's food is gross (although it tastes oh so good) and I avoid it if at all possible, but I have been known to cave on certain days, like when we've been running errands all day, the kids are whiny and starving, and I'm exhausted and the last thing I want to do is go home and cook.

Mcdonalds has always tasted really gross to me even when I was a kid, and we took our son there once and he also wouldn't eat the food even though he normally likes fries and chicken nuggets. Is it possible there is a genetic componant for a taste for McDonalds?

I'm not judging btw, I don't really like any of the fast food chains anymore...most of them don't taste good to me, but I do occasionally eat at a few chains that do taste ok to me and probably aren't any healthier.

Plus I also really like brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts and looooove those harvest chedder sunchips that someone mentioned. And those can't be any better for anyone than at least some of the things at McDonalds.

I also don't like soda pop or sweet tea so McDonalds is just a wasteland.

I do have to share though...my son has never been to a McDonalds that had a big sign,(the one we went to was inside a rest area) but we passed one the other day and he noticed the sign, he didn't say "McDonald's" or "Golden Arches" instead he got all excited and pointed to the sign and said "bunny ears!!! that sign has BUNNY EARS!!!! Its the skull of a bunny mommy! Its a bunny skull sign!" Since then my DH has randomly been saying to me "Bunny skull, would you like fries with that?" or "Hey I had to stop for a burger at Bunny Skull today, it was pretty good!" just to make me crack up.

honestly, it is mostly convenience for us.

Like the time where we moved across the province, and we drove for over 4 hours from our old home to the new one. It was 1 am and the children had fallen asleep, but had woken up for some reason, and were SO hungry.. Had no perishable food with us anymore ( already eaten) and the rest was in the moving truck which was not with us..
McD's was open 24 hours.. it saved us that night, and many others.

If subway was open 24 hrs and was a drive through, we would SO be there ALL the time.,

I want a drive through fresh sandwich shop... NOT like tim hortons tho...

I went to a McD last about 11 years ago. Found out I was pregnant with twins at 7 weeks and never went to a fast food restaurant (cept to use the facilities on a trip, LOL!) since. My five living children have never been in McD. They have been to lots a good restaurants and we are "foodies" at home. I am sure they will someday try it, but hope that my efforts to teach them to love whole, fresh wonderfully made and ethically produced food will stick in the long term.

As far as taste, I don't get it at all. I can't even stand the smell of McDonald's as I'm driving past it.

I can understand people using it for the convenience factor though.

My 6 yr old did something similar with the IHOP sign a couple months ago. She called it L-HOP. She thought the I was a lowercase L. She didn't know since she has never been there.

I know it is dreadfully unhealthy but I love fast food. I understand the implications and how it relates to factory farming and corporate greed and general obesity...but I love fast food. Moderation is the key. The kids eat nuggets and apple slices and white milk. I eat big macs and fries.

I don't go often because I am watching the sodium and sugar in my diet... But Oh boy I do loooove me some McD's when I treat myself. I might have to stop on the way to the hotel tonight darnit! Thanks for the thread.

I don't know about genetics but I still crave KFC when I see an ad or smell it when driving or walking by. My younger dd refuses to eat any fast food. Heck, her "junk food" consists of organic tortilla chips and Haagen Daas She also has never had a soft drink because she thinks they are "gross." I, however, enjoy a Coke a few times a year.

Then it turns out that they gave me a regular coke. Since I was already half way across town I tried to exchange it at the other McDonald's in town. I waited in line foooorever. Finally when it was time to do the exchange, the woman aplogized and told me they were out of Diet Coke.
I felt really bad for myself. I had to settle for a Sprite. Which.....is gross.
Is my story pathetic?
I didn't even know you *could* exchange a food product like that. Learned somrthing new today. And I like McDonalds. Chicken mccnuggets are yummy. :

YOU are assuming that everyone on MDC tries to eat only free range organic foods.

SOOOOOOOOOOO not the case in our house.

I like twinkies and coco pebbles to.

For me, one word- RedBox

Oh yeah, and egg mcmuffins with no meat on lazy mornings.

Ew. Not a McDonald's fan - we prefer to eat Whataburger, but feel totally gross afterwards. This happens about 6x a year.

I take the kids there once in a while for the playspace (rainy day or something). I can't stand the food--the smell lingers on my hands even after multiple washings with lots of soap. :-(

...the apple pies though are pretty tasty...

Totally.

And watch out for the dihydrogen monoxide too.

Quote:
Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters. The atomic components of DHMO are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.

As far as cost, it costs us way more to go to mc D's than a local vegan chinese restraunt. for the 5 of us we are licky to get by spending $35 at mc D's but can spend around $20 at the vegan chinese place down the street- and have leftovers!

We do not go there to save money. Just if we are in a hurry, on the road, can't make a mess, or some odd reason.
