pedi story

I can't remember if I told this story or not, but I feel the need to share (possibly again)
Going to the pediatrician is like going into battle. Right now I'm trying to find one that will give me a peice of paper saying my kids are ok to go to to Daycare even tho they don't have all of the vaccs. so I sat down with a new pedi a few weeks ago. Before she opened her mouth, I said "I want to vaccinate my son, HOWEVER, I'm not sure quite yet what his vacc schedule will be, or which vaccines I would like for him to have. Ideally I would like to wait until he is 2 (brain blood barrier right?) because I don't have much faith in vacc. anymore"

she replied, "ok, we can start him with this vaccine, and then we can do one vaccine every two weeks until he is caught up"

Me: um, no, I haven't decided what or when he is getting his shots.

pedi: what exactly are you worried about?

Me: Well, i've read about thimerosol (sp?) and the other stuff they put in the shots, and before I load my son up on poison I'd like to make sure I know what I'm injecting into my kid. I know I can't control the pollution he breaths in, or drinks, but I sure can control what's injected into his body, and I want to be sure it's not going to hurt him

pedi: Well you can't control the pollution he breathes in, did you think about that?

me: (coughs) um, yes, I believe that is what I said now isn't it?

pedi: If you don't do vaccinations I can tell you right now you'll need to find another practice because here we require vaccinations

Me: thanks for your time

I went home defeated. Do they listen to me when I speak? I'm pretty sure I'm speaking the same language???? At one point she even brought up a little girl who had whooping cough and just was never the same after, so I brought up that sometimes kids get vaccines and are never the same, so which danger do I choose? She said I would have to research it myself

NO $#(% sherlock!!!!

I'm tired, ive been sick so I just haven't had the time or the energy to get all the information I need to battle another pedi.

I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions for questions to take to a pedi meet and greet?

You don't need a doctors permission not to vaccinate. Especially for school in CT. You just need an exemption.

Don't go to a ped; go to a family practice Dr. and get your dd a physical if it's required.

: Even if a dcp could somehow require a doctor's permission, why does it have to be a ped and not some other Dr. that is not as invested in pushing vaccines? If they are truly private I suppose they can make up their own requirements, but if they receive public funds (as for food programs) they cannot discriminate.

Yup - family doc. He signed our daycare physical form, no problem.

At our first visit, the NP said something about vaccines, and I said that we're not doing them right now. Each time we go, the computer screen says something about checking for vaxes, but the Doc never says a thing.

They don't even do vaxes in their office - they send you to the county Health Department. So, it's still up to you to go get them if you want them. Pretty cool.

CT also has an exemption from physical exams. DD has been in preschool for a year and hasn't seen any sort of medical doctor since her 2 mo WBV.
