Yarn suggestions needed

My knitting group is doing a KAL of the wrap around top down cardigan sweater from Knitting pure and simple. It calls for a heavy dk or light worsted weight. I had thought to use cascade 220, but can't seem to find the color I like in it locally. I found the color I like in Berroco, but the yarn is about $3 more a hank causing the material cost to go up about $20 (I know...I'm so cheap ) I thought about using plymouth encore, but honestly after stroking that Berroco alpaca I can't find the love for the encore. So...suggestion sought for a yummy reasonably priced yarn.

OK- if you make it out of something that you don't totally love is it really worth it? i say buy the Berrocco.... (the $20 difference is like what? one pair of fab socks?- omg that is so depressing...)

How about Patons classic merino? Or Plymouth Galway? Both are light worsted weight wools.

Have you checked KnitPicks yet? They usually have very reasonably priced yarn.

Also, you could check out littleknits.com. They have some amazing discounts on gorgeous yarns. Knit Picks Wool of the Andes would be great---comes in a ton of colors, and is just 1.99 for 110 yds, low shipping cost.

If you need something faster, Patons Merino, though it pills, is soft and very reasonable, and you can get it at Joann's or Michael's.

I'd also recommend checking the Webs clearance page. I've found some great buys there.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I ended up using my coupons and getting NaturallyCaron yarn from AC Moore. It's a wool and acrylic blend that seems pretty soft. I think for my first sweater I don't want to spend a ton on supplies. I will save the Berroco for a later project when I'm a much improved knitter.
