Are you a contraction or what??

I'm 39 wks 5days..and a first timer. I've had BH cxtns for months - i'm used to those. But for the last several days I've had several "events" where I get lots of menstrual pain/cramping type feeling down low in my belly and through my lower back. I can still talk and walk although I"m CLEARLY very uncomfortable.

Based on what I've read, the descriptions sort of sounds like a contraction..except that this will last for like 5 or 6 minutes (!) and then not happen again for several hours.

Would these be considered contractions lasting for so long?

hmmm... Is your belly tightening as well? Sounds like a contraction, but I am not sure because of the length of time. The menstrual like cramps are normal too - though my cramps tend to last much longer than 5 mins - but not the tightening abdomen.

my belly will tighten at the beginning but that seems to relax after a minute or two, while the crampy feeling and back pain persists for several more minutes.
weird. oh well...guess i'll just work through them until i can't walk or talk and i'm certain i'm actually in labor.

ok, now I am having a hard time telling if these are contrx I am having or just my little guy moving like crazy. I need to start writing down times and seeing if there is a pattern I guess.

Hi Bettie,

It sounds like I might be experiencing something similar...it's like the baby is doing some crazy movements in my uterus...only sometimes they hurt, they seem to happen regularly for at least a period of time, and they don't feel anything like earlier baby movements. I'm not too sure what to make of them...

I have been having those "menstrual cramps" since 35 weeks. They stink 39 weeks tomorrow...I still get them. Midwife tells me their normal from baby being low in the uterus.
Hang in there! We will have REAL contractions someday!!!!!
