Cooking crispy nuts

Thread Starter
I'm dying to try to make crispy nuts from NT, but I'm not quite sure how to cook them - the lowest setting on my oven is 250...? Should I just leave the oven door a bit open? Or cook at 250 but for a shorter length of time? How do you cook these successfully? TIA!

Use a food dehydrator. The lowest setting on my oven is 170 so the only thing I do in the oven is cashews since they cook at a higher temp. Otherwise (for walnuts, etc.) it's just not worth the headache to use the oven. I've tried using an oven thermometer and with turning the oven on and off, tried to keep it at the right temperature. It always ends up being too hot.

You could try cooking them in the oven, but prop the oven door open just a bit with a chopstick or the handle of a wooden spoon. My DH does this when he makes homemade beef jerky and it works fine.

Does your oven not have a warm temp? What about keeping the light on? Mine usually gets over 100F like that.

Our oven's lowest setting is 170 so I leave the door propped open a bit.

This reminds me that I need to make some more!
