Laws in SC

My future SIL is 19 and pregnant with her first child (this is my brother's baby) and she's been asking some questions. Other things though she has been told some things that are "off" to say the least.

One of these things is Vaccinations. I told her that she is the mama and that this is her decision, but she needs to consider the options and do her own research. Naturally she didn't even know it was an issue. Her mother is telling her that if the baby isn't vaccinated from birth in the hospital that the child can't enter public school.

Can anyone share the laws of SC on delayed or exemptions for vaccinations? What kind of information would you share that would be limited reading time and still get the message out there?

Hi! I'm in SC; I think the Sears vaccine book is a great "first book" because it's so mainstream. I like the Cave book, too. Even though I have some issues with Jenny McCarthy, I also think that reading her book Louder Than Words might encourage her questioning.
Finally, for me, the vaccines that *really* bothered me and caused me to question the whole system (and I'm still working through it, honestly) were the Hep B and Varicella Vaxes. I think it makes a lot of sense to take each vax one by one and weigh risks/benefits, and for me, those particular vaccines lend themselves to an easy decision Where is your SIL? I am around Columbia and am very happy with my selective/delaying ped., if she's looking for someone to talk to about it.

Oh- and it is absolutely NOT TRUE that the baby must be vaccinated from birth in the hospital.

Hmmm, I'm looking at writing up a list of things, no more than one page per subject (vaccines is just one subject). I'm a total non-vaxer after having had one child react, we quit vaxing the one and delayed the rest as we studied the subject, and then came to the non-vax stance both medically and religiously. However, my goal is that be able to make informed decisions, not just what everyone else tells her to do or the "status quo". She's asking questions, so that is a good sign.

She's around Charleston
