Card activation

I just got a Miles by Discover card. Oh my god, I have never had to go through so much nonesense just to get a stupid card activated. I had to listen to a 6 minute sales pitch for a card that I already have. Why do I need to hear about why I should have it twice? Then they tried to sneak in that payment protection crap that I had to firmly shoot them down about. I have the feeling it may show up anyway. If it does, I will cancel the card because that is ridiculous.

The last time I got a credit card was over 5 years ago, so I really don't know if this is something new that I have missed or what, but it was really annoying.

I guess why it irks me is because I just got the card so I would have another reporting tradeline. I don't have enough. I don't really plan on using it beyond for car rentals or incredibly strange emergencies.

Oh well, that was just my rant for this morning.

That drives me insane. I used to have a Citi card and I called once about a mysterious charge and had to listen to all sorts of sales pitches before they'd even answer my questions. Even when I cancelled they tried to sell me stuff. It really made me mad! It feels like they hold the info hostage

ITA. I had to call Discover to reset the PIN for my credit card-- a totally automated procedure-- and had to listen to all these sales pitches first. Took ten minutes and bugged me. Mostly because what they sell the hardest are cash advances (from ATMs or from those checks they won't stop sending me) which is the BIGGEST trap of any credit card. Buying cash at that rate? Seriously? I'd have to be pretty freaking desperate to do that.

And it only gets better. I've had my discover card for almost ten years. The last two have been horrible. I am constantly, sometimes everyday, sometimes more than once a day getting calls from them. They are trying to sell me something, a new rewards card, the protection plan, the new business card, etc! Its infuriating. I have to get really mean with them to get them to stop calling, a few weeks go by and they start calling again.

You can ask them to take you off their marketing list.

I have...many, many times. It lasts for a while, but they always start up again. And in some cases I still get another call the same day. :

Really? They never bother me. They don't even send me cash advance checks anymore because I asked them not to.

Perhaps ask to speak to a manager.

That's a good idea. When they start up again I will have to do that.
