my ds is 7 yo and last night after his bath, i asked him if his foreskin retracts. he showed me that it does some, but mentioned that it stings in the tub if he does it in there because of the soap. is this normal?

thanks-

Yes, some people are very sensitive about soap. Boys, girls, intact and circumcised. Why don't you suggest to him that when he washes his penis he makes a habit of doing it first thing when he gets in the bath before he gets any sampoo or soap in the water. And try to make the soapy part of the bath come at the very end so then he is not sitting in soap the whole time. You'll probably want to avoid bubble bath too.

I don't think the stinging is a sign of anything wrong with him, just his normal sensitivity.

Inside his foreskin has never been exposed to anything before and it is not unusual for the area to be hyper sensitive. With normal hygiene and retraction, the hyper sensitivity will quickly go away and he will have a normal level.

A 7 yr old does not need to wash under the foreskin...

not until he is a teenager and develops certain hormones. And then he will wash all by himself, believe me. LOL

I am looking for a link to this information and will post it as soon as I find it. Because I believe we make much too much of a fuss over little children washing under their foreskin. :
