Has anyone here used this method and can you share your experience? Do the techniques really work? Also, does anyone know of a class instructor in the Houston area? Thanks!

If you go to the Birth and Beyond Forum, there are a couple recent threads about Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies.
I haven't tried it, but I'm going to with this next pregnancy.

I read the book and listened to the CD every night but I used to fall asleep all the time! Too relaxing! Anyway, it worked for me...I 'managed' to have an unmedicated birth in a high-intervention hospital.
Alot of people swear by Hypnobabies but I knew I wouldn't be committed enough to it.
Good Luck!

I tried to use it, but I had 2 midwives and two student midwives all telling me things like: "Get on top of it! Take a deep breath!!, etc..." anytime a contraction would start. I think it would have worked well if I had not been bombarded by so much. My husband and I repeatedly told them to hush - but...
If I were you I would try it, but I would really make sure that my mw/doc knew that's what you want to use and it requires people to shut up so you can concentrate and that you don't need 4 people gawking and talking at you during it. Hindsight is 20/20 - advice is free. I wish you a peaceful birth!

I did Hypnobabies and I LOVED it!!!
I did the Hypnobabies home study course as there are no Hypnobabies instructors in Houston. I decided on Hypnobabies vs. Hypnobirthing because I felt Hypnobabies was more indepth than Hypnobirthing. I wanted actual hypnosis vs. deep relaxation. Hypnobabies also has eyes-open hypnosis, which allows you to stay in hypnosis but still move around.
I listened to the CDs every night and fell asleep most nights. It helped me get a good night's sleep and although I was skeptical that I could absorb the material as I was dozing, I really found that I did.
I had a completely med free, very comfortable and manageable birth at a birthing center. I had one very challenging hour and Hypnobabies helped me stay on top of that. There are CDs specifically for use during labor and during pushing out. My only regret is that my doula wasn't trained in Hypnobabies or Hypnobirthing, so she didn't understand that I really NEEDED my CD coaching during transformation. She turned off the CD and I was so focused on birthing I didn't ask her to turn it back on. I did the coaching all myself in my head--I could hear the lessons in my head, so I know I really absorbed them while I slept.
Also, the Hypnobabies yahoo community was invaluable to me during pregnancy. I liked the whole experience so much I am considering getting certified to teach it.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

HypnoBirthing
I used HypnoBirthing during the birth of my son and loved it! Our birth was absolutely amazing. I actually teach the classes now in Houston. I would def look into finding a practitioner in your area and see if the classes are a fit for you. I didnt even feel my surges from 6-10cm and was totally comfortable throughout the breathing down phase...no pushing, no tearing, all happy tears! :-)

I did hypnobabies - I think it helped tremendously. I stayed uncharacteristically calm and centered despite my unplanned c-section (I labored naturally until transition). I would definitely recommend it, no matter how you think you want to give birth. I would be happy to tell you more about it if you want to pm or email me.
