job offer wwyd

I've been laid off for nearly 2 months but am o.k. financially because I have a 6 month emergency fund which I haven't gone through yet. I haven't been able to find a job that pays what I was making in my previous position. I have received two job offers that together add up to $9,000 more than I was previously making, but would have me working 7 days a week for a total of 64hours each week. Both are within walking distance of my house. Each individual job pays significantly less than what I was making before.

I desperately want to buy a place of my own so an extra $12,000 a year would be wonderful, but working every day of the week seems like it could be a lot too. What would you do?

Nope. Nope, and, again, nope. I currently work 6 days a week, and it's too much. Do you have a family? Hobbies? Friends? We all need a little time in a week to go for a run, have a good talk, a nap, bake some bread, whatever it is that keeps you human. Working 7 days a week, you'll hardly have time to keep your floor and counters visible, never mind keeping your mind and body healthy!
But, my opinion is that we work to live, not that we live to work, so that colours my view here.

I would sit down and think about the things you want to do, add in the things you will *have* to do with your two jobs, and see if it fits (don't forget sleep!).

No way. Even if you aren't a religious person, I'd still say you need a day of rest once a week. I work Monday - Saturday myself, but Sundays are out.

I would not take the 2 jobs for less $ hourly/salary wise than the one job that pays what you were making when you left the last job. Take the one job for the same amount of $ and your days off which you should have for yourself and your sanity. If need be, you can always take a 2nd job working retail, whatnot to make a few extra $.

IT would depend on the jobs... are they both 'full time' positions, part time? how do you get 64 hrs?? 2 32 hrs jobs etc?? Are there health benefits etc...

Is one job manual labor vs a 'desk' job...
is there anyway to adjust the schedule to just 6 days a week?

One is a full time manual labor job. The second is a part time desk job.

Honestly? I'd take the part time desk job in order to pad the emergency fund and use the time away from the job to keep looking for a better position. That seems to make the most sense in terms of giving you at least some incoming cash, space to stay sane, and time to keep looking.

Although the total income boost seems nice, it's probably not the "career combo" you want to keep long term. And there's no place in that 7 day a week schedule for job hunting so even with the money coming in, your "self" and your "future options" are going to be taking a big hit.

Good luck!
