Can tongue tie cause slow weight gain?

My DD was 8lbs 8oz at birth. Today she is 1 month and weighs 9lbs 3oz. She is my third child. Both of my other two had gained pounds by this point and I am worried that she is not getting enough. At about 1 week I consulted a LC because I had painful nursing sessions. Turned out to be positioning issues, but the LC suggested it is also due to tongue tie. She does have a heart shaped tongue. At DD's two week appt I suggested to the ped about having the tongue tie clipped. She basically said it would not do any good and would not do it. I have a contact for a good ENT, I am considering calling him this afternoon.
The pain issues have cleared up, but I am afraid DD is not sucking properly because of the tongue tie and is not getting enough of the fatty milk, or maybe she is a slow to gain baby, unlike my other two.
I feel so stupid for second guessing myself.

When you saw the LC-did she try to measure milk transfer? Not all tongue ties need to be clipped-it just depends on the severity and whether weight gain is a problem. The ENT should be able to tell you how severe it is-if it is not hurting anymore-she probably is able to stretch it enough to get good transfer. What was her lowest weight? You should measure from that -not birth weight to see if she falls in the approximate 4-7 oz weight gain a week.

FWIW- both my dds had tongue tie-my first needed to be clipped, my second did not.

Tongue tie can cause problems with milk transfer and they can lose weight because of it. Please call the ENT soon! It may not help, but at least you can try. My son had a horrible time nursing due to tongue tie and we saw several ENT's and a few peds who wouldn't help us so I resorted to pumping and bottle feeding.

Hopefully you won't have the troubles that I had!!!
