Stupid Shrek movies... Was playing around online and found out they are making not one, but 2 more! I sooo wanted to use "Fiona" for our new arrival, but I just cant bring myself to do it now.:

Im partial to the classics; nothing too popular though. Her middle name will be 'Ruth" for my mom. Here are the names DH and I have agreed on as possibilities:

Adeline
Sylvia
Clara
Sabrina

Thoughts or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks again!

I love Clara, but don't care for it with Ruth. Adeline Ruth is lovely, though.

Adeline - nice, but ambiguous pronunciation. A-de-leen? A-de-line?

Sylvia - classic and cool!

Clara - classic with more of gentle aspect - you could make it more assertive by spelling it Klara

Sabrina - also a classic, spunky, elegant

Personally, I like Sylvia. It's got literary associations from Roman times to Shakespeare to Sylvia Beach in 1920s Paris. It's retro but not frumpy. It's not trendy. And if you're into nicknames, Sylvie is good.

Adeline is the best of your choices. The others seem very old lady=ish.

I like Adeline.

I tend to like names that are more unique and not overused.

I like Sylvia out of your list. And I recently met a little Fiona. Her parents weren't afraid of using it, so if your little comes out looking like a Fiona - go for it!

I Adeline.

If DH would just say yes to it!!

I like Adeline. Good luck.

Sylvie is one of my most favorite names, so Sylvia is my vote!

Sylvia is lovely.

Clara is nice but it is too close to Claire which is way popular just now.

I like Sabrina I like Fiona too though! Its a very high contender on our list right now, Shrek be darned!

I like Adeline(Addy) and Sabrina.

I really like Adeline!

Adeline (rhymes with Madeline not Madalynn?) is my favorite. Clara is my next pick after that. But Clara doesn't sound as good with Ruth as Adeline does. I think Adeline is absolutely beautiful. I love it.

I like Sabrina with Ruth. I also suggested Phoebe on the other thread if Fiona was just too much, it has a similar sound in some ways and a similar old fashioned feel.

Adeline is a nice name too, and Addie is a cute nickname.

Sylvia and Clara are also pretty, I don't think they are particularly old ladyish but maybe with Ruth a tiny bit.

I love Clara! I think that is the best!

I have an Adeline and since I hate sharing names, I think you should use Sylvia. Really though - Adeline is my favorite from your list, all bias aside. I just LOVE the classic beauty of it. The nn Addie is just super sweet on a little girl too.

Ooooh If you pronounce it A-deh-line, I LOVE that one. (The others are nice too, but Adeline is my favorite) Sabrina is a bit too princessy feeling to me (no reason why, just a gut for some reason)

(And I love Ruth as a middle name...very nice with any of the names you have on your list, in my opinion)

I like Addy as a nickname too...

Adeline is beautiful ... my 9yo DD was pulling for that or Addison for our expected blessing ... she had her hopes up about calling the baby Addie.

(we were considering Madelyn or Madison and she suggested Adeline (long I at the end) or Addison )

So Adeline however-ya-pronounce-it gets MY vote!! :

Adeline Ruth ... just lovely!

Like a pp, I also love the name Sylvie, so I would choose Sylvia as #1.
I like Adeline a lot, but when my 8 year old looked at the name in print, he said, "That name is 'Adrenaline' minus the middle syllable." So...
