So we finally have a written offer on our house, we have a home inspection tomm. We were primarilly looking for a house in Brooklyn (North AA county) but are now also considering west Baltimore County as my husband works in Woodlawn. Can you tell me about it? Most of the houses are in Gywn Oak. We homeschool so no big deal on schools.

well, i was hesitating to reply since i'm not exactly sure where Gywnn Oaks is. i went to the Baltimore School of Massage when it was in Woodlawn and I don't have a lot of great things to say about that area.
I also grew up in North West Balt. Co., Owings Mills/Reisterstown area. It's pretty nice up there but my mom feels crime is going up now that the metro runs right into Owings Mills. The mall there can't seem to keep anyone in it. They've lost a ton of major chain stores. When it first opened years ago it was considered very fancy.
If you are interested in hearing more, PM me! good luck, erika

I'm big on watching crime levels in my area. Maybe you could take a look at how crime has increased or decreased over time in the areas you're interested in? http://www.baltimoresun.com/ is where I go. I click on the area I'm interested in (A.A. Co. for me) under Maryland on the left, then check out the Police Blotter (on the right under [area] Resources) .
Congrats on the offer on your house!

I work in Woodlawn but I don't live there. I would say that the area does have crime and it's neighborhood to neighborhood. The high school has a lot of issues that they are working through, and some of that crime can overflow into the neighborhoods. Some of my co-workers live in the Catonsville area and seem to enjoy it. Since SSA and CMS are major employers in the area, there are a lot of employees that do live around Woodlawn. I would suggest actually driving through the area sometime and take a look at the different neighborhoods and have your husband talk to some of his co-workers, since it's likely that many of them live on the west side of Baltimore County if they work in Woodlawn. Also, my brother-in-law is a Baltimore County police officer and he has mentioned on several occasions that the Woodlawn precinct is very busy. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Have you looked in the Hamilton/Lauraville area? It's not as close to your husband's work, but it's a great neighborhood. A lot of families are moving here and with you homeschooling, you don't have to worry about the schools.

Aw I would love to join you, in fact I saw a cute house on line today in Lauraville but it's just too much of a drive for hubby. His truck eats gas, but we keep it cause it's paid off

That stinks!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. .[/QUOTE]

Thanks Suzy
