OB who will let you labor in the tubs at Mercy Hosp.-Baltimore?

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, first pregnancy. I wanted to do a water birth at Mercy with Kathy Sloane & Assoc. but had a surprisingly bad (considering the rave reviews Kathy gets online and by word-of-mouth) experience with one of the midwives (not Kathy) at an office visit. I've heard there are OB's at Mercy who will let you labor in the tub then deliver outside the tub, but I can't seem to find out who they are short of calling every OB who practices there. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you could look into Maryland General. Their midwives do waterbirth too. I have heard that the midwife you had a bad run *(guessing here)in prenatally is not that good during office visits but okay for births. Also you could ask Kathy for an "anyone but X" agreement. Sometimes with a major personality clash midwives will honor that.

I don't know the MW you are referring to and I don't know the specifics, but, I would try to work them out beore leaving the practice entirely. Particularly if you are going to be switching to an OB instead.

Before switching to an OB I would go to Evelyn Muhlhan (Alternative Birth Choices) who will deliver your babe at Mercy. Although I was not able to have my homebirth with her, due to a defect with my babe's heart, she and Casey (birth assistant) were absolutely wonderful the time I was with them.

Dr. Hoffman's group will, in theory, allow you to labor in the tub and get out for the birth, but if the nurses are busy and there is no one to sit with you it may not be an option.

I would discuss this with Kathy and definitely interview with Evelyn.

If you want to labor in the tub there, I suggest you go with someone who will let you deliver there too if you want. I was not planning to deliver my daughter in the tub, but once things got going there is no way I could have gotten out. I loved Kathy btw. I had a terrific ob w/my 1st baby, but the experiences don't even begin to compare.
