question about crochet pattern

Thread Starter
so i looked through some of the patterns posted to my thread requesting some free crochet patterns for wool soakers. i picked one and got started. i did the chain without problems and the first row which called for a single stitch. i'm lost now though with the next row.

http://web.archive.org/web/200609072...ts+pattern.pdf

is the link for the pattern... i know how to double crochet, but i don't know what is meant by skip 1 SC...

why do patterns have to be in all acronyms?!

anyway, can someone point me in the right direction? I'm really excited to be on my way and won't see my MIL until tomorrow night and I want to get some help from her but I want to impress her with how far I got on my own.
thanks ladies!

Skip 1 SC means skip 1 single crochet.
so if the next row starts Skip 1 sc, DC to end, chain 1, turn it emans skip the first stitch and start from 2nd on row

hope that makes sense
