Here's a link to another anti-vax article posted on the front page of MSN this morning. What is up with all the anti-vax articles this week? I've seen 3 different articles now in the last few days. :

Yeah, I have noticed that too. That MSNBC one is terrible reporting, scare mongering at its worst.

I saw it too. Just made me want to move to Ashland, OR where there is 30% exemption rate for kids entering kindergarten! Love it! Here's the link to the first page of the story. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26291109

There actually was quite a bit of anti-vax info in there if you were looking at it from that viewpoint, even though the whole gist of the story was how terrible we are for not vaxing.

I saw this article this morning and I did like the part with the selective vaxer:

Quote:
"I think a child's immune system is so immature," said Jennifer Margulis, 39, an Ashland writer who didn’t vaccinate her three children at all for years, and then selectively immunized them only for a trip to West Africa. "You're putting known toxins in a child before they're 2 years old."

Hesperus, 9, Athena, 7, and Etani, 4, have not received standard immunizations given to more than 90 percent of U.S. children eligible to receive them. They've received vaccinations for yellow fever, meningitis, tetanus and polio, for instance, but not for measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis or chicken pox.

“If you read the list of ingredients about what you’re putting intramuscularly into your child, it’s scary,” said Margulis. “They’re not just giving you a little dose of dead bacteria.”
But I wish there was some kind of follow up about "not one size fits all".

Also they printed yet again the DTaP misconception about preventing transmission.

It called a PR campaign. The medical mafia are worried, so have probably hired a large Madison Ave PR firm and we are seeing the results of their work. They're concerned about the bottom line.

I assume you mean pro-vax

That's easy: it's back to school time. It happens every year just around this time.

Yeah, that's where I quit reading it. They broke down how many people who came down with measles had been vaxed and how many had declined the vax, but they didn't do the same for the pertussis outbreak, and said low vax levels were "likely" to blame, like they didn't want to admit that most of those people were probably vaxed. :

Has anyone been following Redbook's articles about the autistic boy and his family? The mother said his symptoms started right after he recieved 5 shots in one day and believes vaccines contributed to his disorder.

Oregon is great overall for vax exemptions. I live in Ashland and love it here. I know according to the Oregon-California Vaccination Survey that was done a few years back that we have one of the highest non-vax rates around!

at the measles and mumps part. Come on.

Has anyone been reading the comments?

I was surprised at how many people who left comments are anti-vax. Usually the comments following those types of articles are pro-vax by and large.

Of course, there are the ususal "non-vaxers are selfish" comments. Also, there are some from a doctor who has claimed to have seen many, many devasting deaths from chicken pox.

As always, I was impressed at how informed and articulate the non-vaxers are.

CHICKEN POX? I'm new to the vax thing, but I still don't get it. I wonder how many of those deaths were medically (mis)managed??? I'm just not believing that cp is some scary scourge amongst children. Sorry, doc.

Oh, wow, that makes sense. I'm new to this, so this is my first "cycle", so to speak.
