Yeast issues

Ok, I've read a lot about yeast issues in all these allergy threads, and how it contributes to leaky gut. And everything I've read so far is to do everything possible to starve/kill the yeast.

Then I just found this thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=952566

Very interesting.... She is advocating eating MORE yeasty, moldy stuff. But to the same effect- to get the yeast to back down. But not to eradicate it.

Has anyone gone this route, rather than trying to starve the yeast by eating no grains/sugars/etc.?

No, I haven't heard that. I just finished a round of Morinda, which left me a different person (digestively) and my dd is just starting a round of oil of oregano.

I read that thread last night. Very interesting.

When we were first starting out, dd and I were taking Threelac along with probiotics. It wiped out our yeast problem and we haven't had issues (that I know of) since.

How do people know they or their children have a yeast problem?

Different in a good way? What changes did you notice? Let me know how it goes with the oil of oregano for your DD too.

I'm curious about that too. I guess you just assume that there is some sort of imbalance in gut flora when you have a food intolerance... but is it always necessarily yeast?

How did you know that it worked, or that you no longer have a problem? Did it take care of the intolerances or do you (or LO) still have some?

I'm just delving into this new area of research for us.... I've finally got a pretty good hold on my diet, so now I need to focus more on the healing side.

Well, I just read through that thread.......I had to remind myself that - just like with allergies - not every symptom presents itself the same way in all people. Different treatments work for different people.

I'm still working on my own quest to get my gut healed......

Yeah different in a good way... all TMI of course. No more pain before or during bowel movements, regular normal seeming poop without enzyme intervention,

This is day two of ooo for the little girl. She LOVES it. I'm interested to see if it makes any difference for her.

We're doing these trials on chiro/ND assumptions/orders, and the crystal endorses it, so... no hard evidence, kwim?

I have no idea, but I read through that and someone mentioned testing the theory with a big ol' slab of sourdough with garlic and blue cheese on top and I about shorted out the keyboard from the drool.

And here I thought I didn't have food cravings anymore. Huh. Didn't someone else on that thread say that if it sounds good then it's probably what your body needs? Hmm.

For us, it was pretty simple. Dd had lots of yeast rashes and when we did threelac, they finally cleared. Of course, I was doing everything else at the same time (avoiding allergens and taking probiotics), so I'm sure they all worked together, but when we started threelac, that's when I saw the biggest change.

I've seen lots of symptoms/problems attributed to yeast, but our symptoms were pretty straightforward.

Well, we did the yeast treatment at the beginning (so, almost 2 yrs ago) and kept it up for a few months. After we stopped that, we continued on with our regular gut-healing/allergen avoidance and eventually were able to get lots of foods back. I don't think that was connected specifically to eradicating yeast, but to a healthier gut in general. We seem to have gotten dairy back (one of her true IgEs), too, which we just trialed. Again, I think that's due to time and gut-healing and bringing gut flora into balance. I still don't think things are perfect. Dd's poops are sometimes pastier than I'd like, but we're constantly working at it. (They're definitely not "abnormal," but being the poop examiner that I've become, I've got high poop standards )

Isn't that the truth!! I mean, seriously...how many parents pick through and smash and analyze their LO's poop on a daily basis??? It's second nature to me and DH always leaves the poopy diapers he changes sitting on the bin since he knows I'll want to examine them before they get flushed. And....this all seems quite normal. Sorry, slightly OT.

DP does that too. I yelled at him one day, something like "can't you just put a diaper in the bucket, just once, instead of leaving it here on the changing table?!?" and he said, "oh, I thought you would want to look at it first."

But we're ECing now (part time), so now I'm inspecting poops in the potty. It really is a lot more difficult than looking at it in a diaper. Not that I'm complaining... I don't miss changing poopy diapers at all!!
