DD is 5 days, seems low supply is back, we're having to supplement since she is prem and jaundiced. ok far enough she need to formula now.

I can not do the pumping + formula + nursing again, I'll pump for a few week maybe but not longer, btdt

but, would you ever just use the sns? no nurse in public with it?

Also dom helped a bit last time, would you use it if you still end up supplementing?

Any tips for getting over the " I have failed again" feeling??

She loves nursing by the way, makes it so much harder

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I am a low supply mama, too. So...to answer your questions:

I just use the SNS, but I actually use the Lact-aid instead--same concept, different design. With it I nurse in public frequently with no problem.

I use domperidone and still supplement, so yes to that question. Have you tried Goat's Rue? I take both.

As for getting over the "I have failed again" feeling, I have found an online community of people have been through th esame/similar difficulties. I highly recommend MOBI (mothers overcoming breastfeeding issues) and breastfeeding grief:

1) Pumping for the first couple of weeks will help to bring in a maximum supply - good thinking! Jack Newman suggests nursing with an SNS exclusively if you have to supplement because baby gets to breasttfeed and mama gets nipple stimulation and doesn't have to pump
Also, I know a mum who nursed in public with the SNS until 6 months, and then dropped the SNS when out but would still nurse, so baby got snacks of breastmilk when out and solids, then SNS supplemented feeds at home.

2) If domperidone would help to increase milk supply, I personally would use it, and within the first few weeks too - to try to trick my body into thinking I was nursing twins! Again - going for maximum production possible. Now matter how much that is. Because it all helps.

Congrats on your new baby! : I'm so glad she is breastfeeding well - that is super. She's getting great contact with you and will blossom developmentally. Plus her jaw and mouth are getting shaped by breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is more than the milk kuddos to you, especially as it must be frustrating for you with supply issues.

i use the Lact-Aid system and i use it everywhere, home, and out and about.
i also take herbs and domperidone.

acceptance is hard. YOU have not failed. you just need help.
you are doing the best for your baby by continuing to nurse
