I'm going to be tandem nursing with my 16 month old...he's really picked up nursing the past few weeks. Must like the colostrum I guess. :

How did it go the first few days/weeks?

TIA!

It is sooo hard to get to be able to post lately. Mr J was on a feeding frenzy. I am currently tandem nursing dd2 and Mr. J...... TBH, the first few days were hard, she wanted to nurse all the time (it greatly increased from 2x a day) and she cried and cried when I had to get her to wait. I try to give Jaffer (or sleeping beauty the dancer as dd1 calls him) both sides and then let her nurse. It is slowly getting better but sometimes she gets upset if she doesnt get first dibs. For me, the most important thing is to make sure Jaffer gets his full share and then after I know he is totally finished let her finish the rest because she isnt relying on bm to eat like he is kwim? I just dont like the sensation of them both nursing at the same time at all but I am not sure why. I am also trying to get her to nurse in the evening but not to sleep like I am doing with him. She is getting better at just lying next to me cuddling....but if she gets upset and cries of course I cant resist her and I end up nursing both at the same time.....
If I remember correctly, Tamara (dd2) did increase her nursing when there was colostrum (not to mention sqeezing etc (ouch) to get everything she could lol). I forgot to mention she is 21 months now. Maybe your experience will be different with a younger toddler? Keep me posted

I'm 38 weeks nursing my 18 mo. He's really picked up on the nursing especially at night, and my nipples are REALLY sore this past week.

I'm so excited/nervous to tandem.

this is us right now... I tell dd (26 mo) that she can nurse but that she needs to wait until Yver is done. she often flips out... and then gets busy w/ something else and forgets until I offer her.

I have TONS of milk right now so tandem is really practical... dd is a very affective pump

I've understood that the first few months can be very tiring/stressful and then it mellows out. I think this will be the case for us.

because Yver takes up so much time I'm SUPER happy dd still nurses, like we still have our bond kwim? It for sure seems to be helping the transition from solo to sibling.

This is me! My nipples kill, but I have increased nursing sessions to try to induce my labor. Of course my ds is happy to oblige, but gets bored quickly so he never really nurses more then 10-15 minutes.

My ds is 26 months and I was also thinking his nursing will help with engorgement (last time I used a pump) as well as offer additional bonding during this transition. I am glad to hear that it seems to working pretty well for you. Gives me hope.

Well, my older nurser is quite a bit older than the ones here, but we are technically tandem nursing. Sean will be 4 inless than 2 weeks. He hasn't increased the quantity of nursing sessions, but is very happy with the milk he is getting now. He usually nurses before nap, after nap and sometimes in the morning.

I'm glad he is still nursing as it isn't an issue to get him down for a nap. I take him and baby to bed and the nurse together if dd isn't asleep. We all nap together and I am able to get some much needed rest during the day.

I've been surprised that it doesn't bother him or make him want to nurse more when he sees the baby nursing all day. He's never been a comfort nurser, so I guess that's why. It is sweet to see them nurse together and feels very full circle to me since my first two also tandem nursed. He was helpful during engorgement, that's for sure!
