I'm newly pregnant and i tend to get serious HG in my early weeks. I'm moving at 7 weeks and scared of being getting sick and not having a mw picked out yet! I need someone with hospital privileges (or whom works with someone with hospital privileges) incase I have to get IV nutrition or meds. I am planning a homebirth however, so I want a homebirth mw

no OBs please

thanks all!

I suspect that you may not be able to find any such thing in PA. You might end up needing to do shadow care with 2 different midwives, a CNM with hosp. priveliges (though even they are getting scarce) and a different mw for homebirth.

I would call Robin Master.610.562.3273
she does not have hospital privledges, but works with a very nice/good ob. She lives in Shoemakersville and I think has an office in the Bethel area..(she comes to my home for everything that is why I say THINK she has an office!)

Good luck with your pregnancy!!!!! Amy

There's a local website with a providers page:

It looks like there is a homebirth midwife in your town (and other midwives in the area for you too!)
Let us know how things go...

Unfortunately the link for the homebirth midwife in Myerstown hasn't been updated. The CPM that does HBAC is no longer practicing. She was in a bad car accident last August and since her recovery would be so long she decided to retire. So she is unavailable for births.

Ironically, in small Myerstown, there is another homebirth midwife, but she is a CNM and won't touch a HBAC. She's very nice, but also very aware of the status of licensing in Pa. Her name is Susan Farrell.

I actually wrote a longer post to this a few days ago, but it got deleted and I didn't follow up. Your options are VERY limited. The only hb midwife (non-CNM) is Robin Master. Your only other choices are Reading Birth and Women's Center and Birth Care in Bart. LOVE both places, but all are CNMs. Birth Care just got approved by AABC to do secondary VBACs, but it is in the birth center only I believe. And that is about an hour from you. RBWC will only do hospital births. Best wishes!

Yes I would be an HBAC. I have had a c/s and then a sucessful VBAC in '04. honestly I've been a doula for a long time and been to many births, aside from both of my own. I just ant a midwife to make it "feel" safer for my husband and to help guide me (though as far as I'm concerned I could get this from a experienced doula).

I have no interest in a hospital. regardless of how vbac friendly or non-interventive they may be. I just have no interest in birthing in one again. I'll look into local hospitals for emergency purposes, but I'm don't want anything to change the spirituality of birth into the medical business of birth as i know even the friendliest hospitals tend to do. I'm not dogging others who hospital birth (I've done it twice and attended nearly 40 myself) but it's just not my thing.

thanks everyone for your comments! if anyone has more please do post them. I'm enjoying getting familiar with pennsylvania names =)

CARO113- where abouts do you live? it cold be fun to meet at a park sometime when I'm not so sick.

Just saw this older thread and wanted to say that Robin is an excellent midwife!

I will also go to the Myerstown area for births. I will go up to 2 hours in any direction from my home/practice in Long Pond PA.
