What permits do i need for a home-based online retail business? All of this is so confusing. I find permits needed for regular retail but not online. are they they same? I got an EIN and thats about it. I'm in New York... What do I need to get inventory wholesale? Where do I find wholesalers? Thanks

It depends on where you live. Check out your local county website and/or state website. My county website was really helpful in how I can start a home based retail. In my state, there is a phone number I can call to ask any kinds of business questions such as yours.

In my county, I had to fill out a form if I want to have home based business. I don't need permit until I start making $10,000. When I was sole pripriotor, I had to register my business name locally. When I applied as LLC, I registered with State, so, i didn't have to register my name locally.

You need state tax ID number to start buying wholesale. The State Tax ID number is same as sales tax id number. In my local county website, there are links to all the state tax, registeration. etc sites. In my state, as soon as I start using the State Tax ID, I have to report sales tax report every month, even if I had $0 sales.

Simply go to the website where you want to buy wholesale. Most of them have a link for wholesale inquiry. Or you can simply email them and ask them for wholesale information.
