cat allergy question-false positive?

My son supposedly has a cat allergy. He also has asthma and according to the doctor the cats trigger the asthma and she recommended we get rid of our 3 cats. We were starting to look for homes for them and were keeping the cats in a separate part of the house.

Last night my niece babysat for us. We came home and they were both asleep on their favorite piece of furniture. I listened for wheezing and heard nothing. He woke up this morning having slept through the night for the first time ever with no wheezing. How often do allergy tests come up with false positives?

Asthma at less than a year old? That is very unusual. That would make me think more that cats could be an issue. We had to find a new home for our cat ...right after her companion kitty died of cancer it was very hard. Molly went to grandma's house thank goodness. If you do, you will need to scrub the house/walls/floors/carpet/furniture like crazy to get rid of the dander.

But also know that any allergy is merely a symptom of an immune system reacting. He could develop hay fever, or any other allergy. I would start boosting his immune system and see this as a sign to approach it from that angle too.
