Postpartum: anyone else v. sore and practically immobile?

hi,

Had 2nd degree tearing and hemmorroids with their own zip code - jealous of all the mammas talking about exercise and outings. I literally can't sit, only lie down.

Anyone else want to join my pity party?

Me!!!!!!!!! I had 2nd degree tearing and I am beginning to think the resident didnt stitch it up properly....it is starting to hurt....alot. Also, have the *ahem* hemmorroids too except it isnt a zip code it is a postal code for me. I must be in better condition than you because I can sit...or I was able to until I started wondering about the stitching expertise. I havent gone out either and am going batty.....

I'm feeling pretty lucky that I only had a small first degree tear this time and thankfully my brutal case of hemmorroids (where else would I talk about this?) was cured by delivery rather than made worse. I hope you're both feeling better soon! Just wanted to share my "roid" strategies. You've probably tried all of this already but maybe something will help. I actually had to have one of them lanced at the doctors office. Yes, that's how bad they hurt. I went to my GP and put my rear in the air and said "HELP". So that really helped that one heal. But the others weren't thrombos or however the heck you spell it so there was nothing he could do for immediate relief on them. His advice, and I have to say it worked really well after a few days of diligence.... ice, ice and more ice, right where it counts between the cheeks. I would wrap a cube in damp paper towel, slap it in there and get on my hands and knees. Bum in the air as much as possible relieves the pressure some. He also prescribed this awesome ointment. I will never use prep H or anything over the counter again. Why, when the prescription stuff is so much stronger and works so much better. It's called proctocedyl or something of the like and it's a combo of cortisone, pain reliever and antibiotic. Normally I like to go as natural as possible but days of using that vs. weeks of pain... I'll take the medicated ointment thanks. Gosh hemmorroids are the worst! I hope they clear up soon. Congrats on your new little bundles. Veronicalynne... your babe was born on my wedding anniversary. That's a good day! I now have a wedding anniversary on the 5th, new baby's birthday on the 12th, my dad's on the 11th and my first son's on the 22nd. We love august!

I'm feeling a lot better now, but I was in a lot of pain the first two weeks. No roids, but a tear and bruised tailbone. It's still a bit tender to sit on some chairs.

I took motrin 2x a day for the first 2 wks just so I could keep up! It hurt to walk, sit etc.

Hello fellow sufferers!
Still not able to sit even on cushions - I have to "recline" on one side or the other. My mother arrived yesterday and so I am hoping the extra help means I won't undo any repair. I got to spend most of the day in bed and not have to struggle with getting up while holding the baby, or walk while holding the baby (which I love but which sets me back a lot). I am hoping a few days of the extra rest will get the healing going.

I have been doing sitz baths the last day or 2. I heard they don't really heal, they are more for comfort but I am using herbs so maybe they will help. I also did ice tonight and it felt SO good, so I plan to do that several times tomorrow.

I am using over the counter Prep H stuff. I didn't know there was a prescription cream - you would think between the 2 OBs and the family doc ONE of them would have mentioned it. Anyone know the exact name of the prescription? I might call the doc and see if he'd just call it in.

Open to any and all other suggestions. I think time and rest will help. I haven't even thought about the 2nd degree tear stuff - although I sometimes feel like the stitches are pulling down there.

How's everyone else doing?
If you are further along postpartum I am curious how long it took for you to feel better/get more mobile/maybe leave the house?

thanks.

May I join the pity party? Today is the first day without pain meds. I don't have the hemmis but my OB had to cut me to get DD out since her heartrate was dangerously low. From what I know he did three snips and nobody would tell me how bad it is. I haven't dared to look yet (and it's been more than a week) but it is getting better. After all, I'm still glad I only have this scar than another C/S scar.

Hope we'll feel better soon.

Oh...DH pushed with me at the hospital and apparently he has some hemmi issues now...poor guy. He gave all he had :

My mw and the family dr she works with are making a house call tomorrow to lance my hemmoroids. Another tactic that she recommended in the meantime is pushing them back in. I cried my eyes out when she recommended it. But, it does bring immediate relief until your next bm.

I'm SO feeling for you ladies. I've been there.

Calendula...I'm sure there are many prescription options for hemmorroids. I'm sure mine was called proctocedyl or something very close to it. In mt opinion it's very worth looking into. And as unpleasant as lancing is, although it doesn't really hurt with freezing, it does bring some immediate relief.

Thanks for all these replies.

I did call into my doc for the prescription ointment today. I am still waiting to hear if they will fill it, so fingers crossed.

Can't wait to be able to look back on this and say "phew it's over". Repeat after me: it will happen, it will happen.

Still it does help to know we're not alone.
Hope everyone is doing better today. Keep us posted. The party continues...

It is more the stitches that are hurting......more than they were at the beginning. I am starting to wonder if they didnt stitch it properly. I dont think it is infected. The pee area has been hurting alot for almost a week now which is new but not when peeing.....maybe there was a tiny tear in that area that they didnt bother to stitch? Is anyone else getting pain in that area?

My dr did say that I tore my urethea but that she wasn't going to stitch because the stitches would cause more discomfort than the tear. It stung for a few days but then didn't seem to bother me.

I was wondering the SAME thing, but eventually the pee pain stopped. Thank god, it was horrid.

I have both a 2nd degree tear and I think I just realized I had hemorrhoids... I've never had them before That explains the pain in that area.

It's horrible. I too am jealous of everyone out and about because I waited nine months to do so !! I can hardly fuction as a mother at this rate..

I can't sit or walk or anything right.. So I hope I get better soon, along with the rest of the mommas.

Your little one was born on the same day as mine: Noone told me if I tore my urethea but the weird thing is it wasnt hurting at first and started hurting when i was in the middle of peeing and at the end of peeing. Now for the last week it is hurting all the time and now i am not sure if it is the urethea or TMI.....the clitoral area but the pain is getting worse and worse. I have an appointment with my ob on the 8th.....i am wondering if i should try to get in sooner.....

How is everyone doing today?
I am still about the same. I did get the prescription roid stuff BUT it turned out to be suppository only - yikes, I am not brave enough for that. It also said not safe for breastfeeding - I would use it if it was an ointment but I've decided to pass. Oh well, at least it wasn't expensive but I had such high hopes for it.

So, still lying on my side, feeling the itch to do things but scared to set myself back.

ouch!!!!!!!! That sounds wonderful....suppositories for a pain in the butt.....Have you tried "Tucks"? It is a round wet kind of cloth you put in between the cheeks of your butt....I am not sure if they work or not but they are supposed to feel soothing. They look a bit like the round aveeno cloths you can use for washing the face....would a frozen mentrual pad help at all? My hemorroids seem to be more ok now it is the other I mentioned before that is causing the problem. I finally phoned the doctor and the receptionist is going to see if they can get me in to see someone else since my dr wont be back until next friday. I am fine moving around. It just hurts a bit to get on and off the couch and I cant sit on the floor at all. The only benefit is my husband is changing all diapers since we change them on the floor and I cant sit...Are you still getting help with the baby?

nak

They lanced mine and the next day i was able to sit and function again.

Tucks pads can be a little soothing especially if you keep them in the fridge and they're good for cleansing when you dont' want to use harsh paper. But they dont' really work on resolving the issue.

Did the suppository say "consult a physician if breastfeeding" or "not safe for breastfeeding"? I'd check with the doctor. And if it is okay to use you may not find it as bad as you think it'll be. Try the ice!!! Wrap in a damp paper towel or thin cloth and ice those babies down with your tush in the air. I bet a few days of doing that religiously and you'll be on the mend. Have you had a doc look at them though? Because if they have clots in them there is little you can do to make them better without getting them lanced.
