I have no idea. First time charting and irregular periods. How long do you have to wait to get a BFP? Should I wait 18? or 14? How long does everyone else usually wait.

cak, your chart looks pretty good to me. In another couple days you'll have a better idea of what's going on I think.

I think waiting for 14 dpo is usually good. Some people have even tested as early as 9 dpo and got a bfp but the earlier you test the better the chance of a false negative. I personally am going to wait 18 as I've had luteal phases as long as 16 days and I really really hate negatives

: and for you (and all the rest of us here!!)

A large study was done that showed 84% of implantations occured between 8 and 10 days past ovulation. And a positive BFP would show a day or two after implantation. Of course there's been plenty of cases of a first BFP earlier than 8DPO and later than 12DPO. Personally, with my last pregnancy, I got a BFN 10DPO and a BFP 11DPO.

When you get a BFP also depends on the senstivity of the pregnancy test you're using. If you're going to test before 14DPO, use an "early" pregnancy test, ideally one that tests for 20-25 mIU.

Long story short, as to not waste too many tests, I'd say start testing 11DPO, with a 20-25miu test, if you want to find out as early as possible. Or if you have the patience, wait until after your expected period, or 14DPO. HTH!

Joining!!

No charting, just a basic idea of when I ovulate and a chance that last night...well, you know! eta: AF due sometime around the 14th Sept)

I have never done this waiting game before - DS was a, er, surprise.

Add me!!

I'm having a sort of weird cycle, but I think AF will be due September 8th or so. Here's hoping!

Hey, does anyone know about dollar-store cheapie pregnancy tests in Canada? I hear alot about them on various websites, but don't know if dollar-stores here sell them (which I can check of course), and what quality they are if so (wondering if anyone knows).

*sigh* I think AF is going to come on about wednesday maybe Friday. I don't feel PG and my CM and cervix is telling me that AF is on her way. Plus I have the beginnings of cramps.

I think I will O next cycle when we are on our 1 yr anniversary! that should be fun

You're not alone, Kriket... I am also expecting AF around the same time. My temps keep dipping.....

I'm not crazy about watermelon at the moment (though it is still a favorite of mine) but I DID send DH out for watermelon about two days before I went into labour with my first. I wanted it SO bad and she was born May 5 and they aren't easy to find that time of year!!

No, but Walmart has tests for less than $5, one stick only I think. And two sticks for $7something. Not too bad.

I'm 10dpo today.... one of those "early" tests should show a BFP probably. I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant, but not wanting to see a negitive! So, I wait, another 4-6 days I think. And if I'm not pregnant, I'm too frugal to waste a test on a negative result!

ME TOO!!! How funny. I must have gone through 5 watermelons the last month of my pregnancy. It's like I was so thirsty and there was nothing else that would do. I also bought an ice shaving machine, but it just didn't do it for me like the watermelon.

Limabean, check out ebay. I always get my ovulation sticks and pregnancy tests there. But you have to think ahead because it takes some time for shipping, and maybe to win the auction. Today I did a "Buy It Now", 5 First Response Early Pregnancy Tests for $7.75, including shipping.

Kriket and Tuwamare, sorry about your symptoms. Maybe it's not time to give up hope yet. I didn't have any early pregnancy symptoms with my first.

wtg4miracle, welcome!

Add me to the list. I've been charting somewhat irregularly (I know, what's the point!?) but have a good idea of when I ovulated. Tested too early and wasted a test, so will test in a few more days. I had sent hubby to the store for 2 packages of tests...he comes home with ONE and says, 'well, there's two tests in the package!' Now I'm down to one, it had better be a good one!

Good luck everyone!

Ok, I'm starting to obsess... I kinda guessed on my last menstrual cycle start date because I honestly can't remember when it was! I know it was in August and I know if was a few days before I think it should have been... so I went and signed up for a fertility friend account and it says I should have been having sex for the four days before I think I Oed, which I don't think we did because we were too damn busy getting married!

Anyhow, then I went back to look at the calendar on the fridge where I have surreptitiously been marking my O and P days for the last few months. At closer examination my cycle is really wonky! Anywhere from 22-32 days. Nice. So, in theory, I could be due to start AF today, could be in another 10 days. Arg!! Ah well, I'll just ignore all that, go with my gut instinct that I might be pregnant and hang my hopes on the fact that I was tracking CM and according to THAT we DTD on the right days (and pretty much every day since because DH says "better just make sure!!" Um, yeah, I'm tired hon, I chase a toddler all day!)

Anyhow, that's my rant for the evening. Time for bed.

Limabean1975 : Don't shop at wallmart. It hurts my soul.

I have heard rumors that the Canadian $ tree tests were under governmental scrutiny? I don't remember why, but they have them (at least they do in southern Ontario)

I also have wanted watermelon like no one's business. I bought a 1/4 at the grocery thinking it would make a good lunch. I ate it then ran back and bought a whole one. I wanted watermelon.

I ate a hunk of cold rice with BBQ sauce and yellow mustard the other night for dinner. It was what sounded good. DH looked at it and shook his head saying "thousands in culinary training and you put mustard and BBQ on cold rice.."

I know, me too. I was actually thinking I'd just go for LIfe Brand at Shopper's. For now. If this turns into a longer journey where I need lots of tests, thanks jazcat for the ebay suggestion!
I was googling yesterday and came across the stuff about the government and the Dollarama tests - I suspect it's simply that they are not licensed for sale here. According to peeonastick.com, HPT's are super-cheap to make, but have varying markups - so cheapies are just fine (assuming peeonastick's writer really knows what she's talking about!).
