dd1 tested for sensitivities to eggs, dairy, wheat, soybean, peanut, corn, gluten; didn't have dd2 tested, but she has a problem w/constipation. naturalpath recommended clo and prunes. ped recommended miralax. stopped the meds, babe won't eat prunes any longer, but loves solids (cries when we eat and won't give her something she wants). i am also avoiding above foods w/dd1 (corn has been tough to avoid for us), as is dd2. LOTS of brown rice products. dd2 is still bf when i am home, but takes little mama's milk by bottle or cup when i am at work. her constipation has gotten so bad that i had to help her poop tonight and thought we would have to make a trip to er to get the rest out (sorry)!!! she finally pooped but cried during the whole episode and her poor bottom was all swollen. huge poops and of course, blood due to the size. what should i do? never had this problem w/dd1; she would poop all the time!

I suggest stop feeding her the brown rice and other rice products all together. And, replace the carbohydrate with cooked veggies. Cut them in different forms (chop, mince, shred, etc) and cook in different oil (coconut, olive, etc.) or steam them.

Fish and chicken over red meat.

If you are eating beans, avoid canned, and soak them over night. Don't use its water for cooking.

Taking digestive enzymes (with meal at first) may also be a help. Choose the ones that has both Amylase and Protease.

Drink warm water (with fresh lemon, if you like) especially first thing in a morning.

Increase liquid intake. Soup, homemade popsicles, anything to get water in. Also, adding oil (olive, etc.) to her food will loosen things up. I don't remember reading anything about fruit. Most help keep things moving. Bananas are an exception...they bind a bit, so watch that. Hope things shape up. Chronic constipation can lead a child to hold back from having bowel movements, creating further stooling issues, so it's good you're adressing this.
Congrats, she's almost a year.

you can also do epsom salts baths. That's a form of magnesium which naturally draws liquids into the colon. You'll have to see how she responds because it can be *quite* effective. My son gets them 2x a week. you may also need to do lotion after because it can dry out the skin. I hear ya mama! I got more practice with my labor support skills helping my kids poop than I did at births

Do you recommend these for her, or just me?

We do only eat fish and have been eating more since diet change. Also, have been eating lots of beans and they have been home soaked and rinsed before cooking.

Thanks for the replies.

Have you checked into a Prolapsed bowel? It's VERY common for small potty training age children to have this happen. My dd had it- very traumatic and horrible. Children who are prone to constipation are also very susciptable to this issue also(just saw dd's age)

My DD had a prolapse that would litterally come out of her anus- very bad. I have a prolapse higher up (due to 4 childbirths) and have to push my perinium to get poop to get out past that prolapse.

Mineral Oil was reccomended for my DD- She took 1/2 tsp every day- and that's the important thing. EVERY DAY- it's like a lube that takes time to accumulate all the way though her intestines. They said "Try it in juice or something to dilute it" and she took it straight better than diluted. Straight she got the whole dose, diluted she only got MAYBE 1/2 because it made everything taste funny.

Sorry for your baby!

how long did she have to take mineral oil for?

Digestive enzyme is for you.

You can open the cap., and mix in food or drink for your kids. Otherwise, most of the digestive enzymes smells bad.

You may want to study www.enzymestuff.com for more info.

She took the mineral oil for a few months and then we started that "Benefiber" works WONDERS- all my kids call it poop sugar! They love that it helps them poop softer easier and not so painfull.
