i just recently moved and my son missed his 4 month checkup and shots, is that really bad? I'm getting him into the dr on tuesday but I wanted to know if I'm going to be hearing it from the dr. ect!?

Well, guess that depends on the doctor. Don't let yourself be bullied or patronized. You don't 'have' to consent to your child getting any shots at all. You are the parent! If your doctor isn't respectful of you or your choices find one who is more so. You can view the CDC's recommended catch up schedule here. Scroll down to the appropriate option for your baby.

Who cares what the doc says? He's not YOUR boss, it's the other way around!

FTR - lots of parents on this forum don't do well-baby visits and/or vaccinations.

Well, let me ask you... why are you vaccinating? Do you know what vaccines your child has received? Do you know how well (or not) vaccines work? Do you know what is in the vaccines? I could go on and on... my intent is not to get your defences up, at all. My intent is that you RESEARCH out exactly what it is that your Doctor gave your infant and make your own decision about whether or not your baby is going to get any more shots in the future. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH.

FYI, my first daughter has received most of her vaccines up to age 4.5. DD#2 received less vaccines but we stopped at 15 months... she never received the MMR. DS has never had a vaccine in his life. I've had a Doctor, two speech therapists, and even my own mother (who teaches special needs preschoolers - you can't believe how much schooling she has) tell me to never vaccinate my middle child again. That started me on my journey for research and I can safely say that no one in my family will ever receive a vaccine again (unless they join the military in which case it is their own decision.) Anyway, sorry to go on and on... I see the Doctor when my kids are injured or ill to the point that they need antibiotics and me and the Doctor are both happy with the relationship.

We moved during the time when my twins should have had their 12 mo vaxes. It turned out to be perfect timing because it allowed me to do the research to decide that we weren't vaxing anymore.

We had many visits to the ER during that time also and not one doc or nurse got on me about being late on their shots. I simply said we had just moved and hadn't found a doc yet (they didn't need to know we would not be doing any more). If a doc got nasty with me for being behind I would leave immediately.

Right, who cares what the doctor says. We don't do well visits. If my children are well, they don't need to be seen. How you vaccinate is your business.

No, it's not bad. Your child does not need to be vaccinated at exactly 4 months. It seems that you haven't done a lot of research on vaccines if you are asking this question. I suggest your browse the archives and maybe pick up a book like What your Doctor May Not Tell you About Vaccines by Dr. Stephanie Cave.

I also have a couple links to videos that are excellent if you would like. (they are at my work computer so I will post later).

Do yourself a favor and research fully until you decide to continue vaccinating. If you decide to continue on after you did the research then great If not, then you might save yourself some major regrets.

Happy Reading

My oldest didn't have any shots at all until 6 months. And then he never had any more. So no, not getting them right at 4 months isn't going to hurt. Personally, I'd cancel the appointment and do some research.

Hmmm. My daughter is 5 years late and my son is 15 months late for shots...

Welcome to the vaccinations board.

Thanks everyone, I certainly appreciate everyones input. I haven't done much research til recently and still haven't done enough period. I'm a young, new mommy so I never knew to look into this stuff until I joined this forum. Very informative though, and again, I appreciate all the advice.

Here are the links I promised a couple days ago. Trust me when I say both are excellent starting points for research.

Here's another good video on the subject.

Vax myths:

This artice is for over 50 but it applies to all ages. It discusses vaxes affects on the brain:

Some articles by Dr. Mendehlson. This guy was a ped for 30 years, chairman of the IL medical license board, and taught at U or IL and Northwest U, and director for head start. He is anti-vax and explains his reasons why.

No it's no big deal to miss an appt. Just let them know why you are late and make sure they are looking at the right month on the growth charts, since in their head they'll be thinking 4 mo visit and your babe is actually older.

Also, if you do vax, be aware that the shots in a series have to be so many weeks apart, so all your future well baby visits will be later now.

We ended up late due to illness (I wouldn't let them vax when DD was on antibiotics and recovering from RSV) and it was no big deal to the ped at all. No pressure.

We also spaced our shots with no pressure or problems. I just had to go in for extra visits.

And I just told my ped today that I plan to delay the MMR shot for a while. I don't see any reason why it has to be given asap. They were okay with it, although I'm sure I'll get a spiel about it. But I never say I'm not going to vax, only that I'm delaying which seems to go over better.
