I've never heard of it, but your description sounds like a cleaver. We've been training DD with some easier to cut foods. For example, we let her use a paring knife to cut the tops off her strawberries (with supervision, of course).
I just read your description to DH and he said it sounded like a "scraper". I know what he means. Some people call it a bench knife and some call it a dough scraper. Is that what you're looking for? I'll see if I can find a link.
I'd rather do that one. It's blunt on the end, but still a sharp knife. I want DD to expect that ALL knives are sharp and know how to handle them properly.
