Help! What do I do next?

We were at baseline. Now we're not. I don't know what has changed. I had begun introducing things back into my diet and dd's about every 4 days and it was going well. Then we took a weekend road trip and I had to eat out frequently. I was really careful but I'm sure there were a few small exposures - I chose that time to trial soy lecithen and soybean oil to make things easier. Still, dd's poops stayed pretty good during the trip. But since we've been back (about 2 weeks) she's been having mucousy poops more and more frequently. I keep eliminating more things and now I'm basically back to where we were when we got to baseline (me off all top 8 + oats, dd eating only sweet potatos, squash, and pears). The last 5 days she's had mucous every day. But at least no blood.

She has a cold. Could that explain it? Otherwise it must be a new allergy I guess. How in the world do I figure out what it is. What would be the next thing to eliminate? Corn has been fine up until now.

Anyone ever do the bunny hop? 1 hop forward, 1 hop back...

Only for the last 8 months....

I would say that it's probably from the eating out. Even if you were really careful, you probably introduced a whole bunch of foods at the same time. There have been too many bad restaurant stories on here ("the server told me it was canola oil, but we found out later it was soy", etc...) to trust that you didn't accidentally get one or more of your allergens.

I thought the same thing. But why are things getting worse rather than better since we've been home?

Sadly, that seems to be the nature of the beast. During our first allergen-free year, when dd had an accidental exposure, her reaction was swift and extreme. I don't know why, other than I think her immune system was working out the kinks. During the second year, any accidental exposure either yielded no noticeable reaction, or it took days to show up (I reintro'd strawberries and coconut and didn't see reactions for 4 days). We just reintro'd dairy, and I waited a month before saying she was "clear" because her reactions come so slowly now.

So, it's likely that your dd's body is just extra sensitive now and will take a little while to calm down. At least you know soy is a no-go, which is both and

Yes, Soy is the only thing I know for sure to be a problem. And we have to stay far away from soy in all forms. At least I have 1 thing I know for certain.

So I guess I'll stick with no top 8 + oats, even though fish and wheat seemed okay during trials??? At least until things settle down.

How I wish someone could hand me a list of dd's allergens!

3 weeks til the allergist, but I'm not holding my breath for any answers there.

Yeah I would stay off fish and wheat for now. Especially the wheat/gluten can be really damaging to the system and very sneaky at what reactions it causes.

Hope you see baseline again soon!

Oh- no kidding!! How much would I pay for THAT piece of paper!!

Well, it could be the cold. For quite a while my dd would have a reaction when her immune system was fighting something off, even when nothing in her diet had changed. I don't know if this still happens because she hasn't had a bug for a while. I'm sure I'll find out once pre-school starts again though!

Been doing the bunny hop here since Dec' o6. Kinda wish we'd get to the part where you hop forward three times in a row. We've been off baseline for about 5 days, and I can't point to a stint of restaraunt meals to explain it. Not a clue. I am here with you mama...mucous sucks. Your point about the cold is a good one. Runny noses are mucousy. Also, teething seems to give DS loose icky bm's, further complicating my efforts to discern what he can/ cannot eat. I was really glad to see other moms saying that the first year was really reactive, because I sometimes feel like I could get him sick just THINKING about cheese. Stay with it mama.

The Crystal Test

It takes a little practice but it works most of the time.
There's a old thread around, if you haven't seen it already.
I test my dd when she's asleep...
Good luck!

The other day I caught myself thinking "Maybe it is the wheat. Oh wait, I didn't actually eat the wheat - I just thought about it."

Yes, we have the teething issue here too. We're going back to the pedi next week and I just know when she asks what foods we're eating and I tell her the same ones from 2 1/2 months ago she's going to wonder what in the world we're doing . I sometimes wonder if dd will still be eating sweet pots, squash, and pears every day when she's 5.
