Laws regulating VBACs in PA???

Anyone knows the legal climate surrounding VBACs in PA?
I will start TTC soon and want to attempt a VBA2C.
What are the legal implications??

Anyone knows?

Thanks!

I think licensed CNM's are prohibited from attending home VBAC. Very few hospitals allow it, although there's no legal reason for that, just their insurance and their own fears. Your best bet is probably CPMs or DEMs. It might be a good idea to find a practitioner now and get that squared away.

I'm going for a VBA2C with a Midwife (who has to have a supervising OB attend) at a hospital. I do know a midwife who does home births in the Poconos of VBA2Cs.

CNM's I think check with others, can attend the secondary (second attempt, post a successful vaginal delivery after a c - section) vbac at home or in a birthing center. But a primary (first attempt at vaginal birth after a c-section) must be in a hospital.

Where are you located? There are a lot of vaginal delivery proponent doctors out there.

You might be able to find a CPM to attend one at home, depending where in PA you are. I don't know of any CNMs who attend homebirths in SE PA b/c they need an OB backing them.

I am in West Chester, PA. WOW! Midwife accompanied by an OB?!
I heard of that in Georgia... but not here!
Who's the midwife? Where are you?
Sounds interesting!

I will start TTC by Xmas... so we'll see how that pans out. I do have an appointment with my OB next week... so we'll see what she says. She was encouraging of me trying a VBAC last time... but I budged in to DH pressure to have a repeat c section at 39 weeks cause my BP went up a bit and he was terrified of another traumatizing birthing experience.

I'm in West Chester. I want my VBA2c in a hosoital and am hoping that my OB will attend. She has a doula in her practice... so maybe that's what I'll do. We'll have to see

I have heard about VBACs in Lehigh Valley, I don't know about 2Cs though.

Good luck!

My friend just had a VBA2C at Lehigh Valley Hospital. I think it is one of the only ones in the area who will "let" you try a VBA2C. The OB she had was a jerk and fought her most of the time, but she had great midwives (I think Laurice) and an AWESOME doula. She doesn't post here frequently, but if you'd like I can pm her and point her in the direction of this thread.
