Vaccine Brands

I posted this query a long time ago in the Selective Vax forum, but nobody had an answer. I'm hoping to have better luck here. I hope it's OK to "cheat" by posting here!

I read my Dr. Sears book and scripted my own tentative selective/delayed vax schedule. When I told Dd's doctor which (low-aluminum) shots I wanted, she replied, "We just get what the state sends us." I persisted and asked if she could order them in from the manufacturers, and she shook her head. I called the local branch of the health dept. and got the same reply.

Can't a private physician order in any pharmaceutical product at a patient's request? I'm concerned that every doctor in town gets "whatever the state sends us" and won't be able to work with me. :

You should be able to call around and find someone willing to do it. Sounds like your office gets hand outs from the health dept. It likely isn't that they are unable to order, but unwilling to. Why should they when they get them for free? The issue for doctors is they have to order a certain amount to be able to get it, and that could become expensive for them, especially if they're left sitting on the remainder of the product. Ask around, you may find a doctor who is already doing this for other patients. Maybe post in finding your tribe for your area and ask for no vax/ selective vax friendly doc recommendations. You may have better luck with a doctor who has already been willing to work with patients wishes in regards to vaccinating.

If you have State insurance, your doc may only be able to get certain brands of vax's. I can only get certain brands from the State of Illinois program. If you have private insurance, call around to other peds offices to see who carries the vaxs you want.

Thanks for sharing DocJenn, I was unaware of that issue.

I have private insurance, so I didn't think it would be a problem! But you're right--it's probably costly and inconvenient for the clinic. Thanks for your suggestion to post in my "tribe." Consider it done!

go to http://www.novaccine.com/ to compare brands and ingredient lists, dosage guidelines etc.
