Med Transc-is this a good rate?

I just started doing transcription from home, I am a quick typist, familiar with med terms, and have done some transcription in the past (not an all day every day thing though). They hired me at .07 per line. I can move up to .08 per line when my work doesn't need as much checking, and let me tell you I am not there yet! Is this a reasonable rate? Any tips?? Thanks! Leigh

I've seen several companies start their MTs out at that rate. Smaller service owners will pay much more, but you often lose flexibility. Just an FYI. =)

Check into purchasing a word expander if you don't already have one. If you have a doctor who says the same thing over and over (only changing values) you can enter the whole paragraph (or report) into your program. Then simply read through it along with him and make any updates.

Also, get all your references in order so that they are easy to find - such as catagorizing your internet bookmarks.

Hope that helps!! Good luck!

Thanks! that's a great idea. I'll get that set up. My hands are starting to hurt, so I have to invest in a better keyboard and wrist support. I am not sure if this is really what I want to do (I think that way at midnight), but it's great to be home with the kiddos!
