Pediatrician in the Huntington-Charleston area of WV

I am due October 11th with my first child, and I am having trouble finding a good pediatrician in my area.

The doctor must be somewhere between Huntington and Charleston (I live in Hurricane, so the closer to Hurricane the better). He/she must also be no-circ and breastfeeding friendly.

I have heard horror stories of doctors pulling back the foreskin on intact little boys, and I really don't want my son to have to go through that. I have also heard of doctors that will discourage breastfeeding a baby that isn't keeping up with the charts that were designed for formula fed babies.

I don't like my neice's doctor, and I don't know anyone else with young kids, so I really have no idea where to start/

I don't live near you, but I can tell you that my experience is that you will never find exactly what you want in a Dr. My take on it is that all you really want in a ped is someone you can communicate with, who is respectful of your parenting, period. Generally, the ped is the last person you want to ask for breastfeeding advice, unfortunately, and I've never met an "anti-circ" ped. Not that they're not out there, I've just never met one. I've also never had my choice to leave my boys intact questioned, though, which is as good as it seems to get, again, unfortunately. You need someone to swab for things like strep throat, and help you track your baby's progress, that's pretty much it. Can you tell I'm a bit cynical on this issue?

university ped

I haven't lived in WV in a few years, but we went to Univeristy Ped. (I think that was the name) Dr. Lutz. I really liked her a lot and I BFd, did cloth diapers (she was interested in knowing more about them at least) and was cool with me not vaxing. She didn't offer a lot of info for me, but at least she was okay with my choices. FYI- I REALLY enjoyed my experience having my first child in Huntington. the private hospital- St Marys, was FANTASTIC. I had a midwife, Clara Kovacs and the nursing staff was amazing. Totally doula friendly and their LC was great too. i was blown away.

Good luck!
p.s. I think their offices are actually on site at St. Marys

I will definitely look into that pediatrician.

I am also using Klara Kovacs, and she is awesome. I have had to see an OB a couple times in the same office, and he seemed nice too.

I am planning to use St. Mary's if all goes well, because unfortunately the birth center in Teays Valley is not an option for me.

Sorry haven't been on here in a while I looooove Klara and she actually delivered my baby instead of the OB (Chamberlain) The practice allows you to decide who you want to deliver. And I always ended up making appts with her, the OB was always too busy or in the hospital. Dr. Nutt was pretty cool too, I liked him more than Chamberlain. I wanted to do Teays Valley too, but decided to go with St. Marys. The LC was wonderful. I can't remember her name, but I called her MANY times after we got home and she was fantastic.

Best of luck!
