Agree! While I do like the thought of hibernating, I just don't think it will be as romantic with 2 preschoolers. And honestly, I have a hard time in the winter. Axel was December, and Eva was April, and I swore I'd never have another winter baby- I think I had a touch of ppd with Axel, and it was based around the darkness and the cold. (here is gets dark at 5 pm in the winter) Last winter in Jan-Feb I think I had a bit of SAD; I was very emotional, lost my temper frequently with the kids, and had weird violent thoughts. I guess I'm just imagining the worst- with a new baby and the crippling weakness I feel for 2-4 weeks after birth. What I need is a live in nanny/doula to help me. But honestly, what is the likelihood of that?

On the upside, though- maybe the pregnancy will be what gets me through this year- I do love being pregnant, and having the baby to look forward to might be really great.

Starling- I agree that maybe you'll use the med's in the last month- that's when I seriously break out the sweats and oversized shirts. Until then, maybe the smalls will be better. You might get that big, but you might not!

kayleesmom- sorry about your dissapointing u/s. Sometimes they're not as exciting or great as we hope they'll be.

The weather here is starting to cool down, but it never actually gets really cold here -- we rarely get snow. There's been more rain, which I actually don't mind. It's the island life.

I'm still quite cold all the time, so I think I may have to buy warm clothing for the first time EVER. Normally I'm the girl who lives in a fleece vest all winter, but I've actually put on a scarf at home a couple times since being knocked up. Freaking weird.

We borrowed a bunch of baby stuff from my SIL and cleaned out a dresser to use for the shrimp's room last week. Other than that, no purchases or big changes yet.

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to being super pregnant at Christmas so I don't have to do any prep work in the kitchen and such? : We're going to my parent's place and I'll be super pregnant and my sister will have a 3 month old. Looks like the guys will be helping mom in the kitchen this time!

Heck no!! With my last baby I was due dec 22, they had Christmas at my house but I didn't have to do a darn thing! Although looking back at the pics i was HUGE! I had been worried about having Christmas, you know, possibly having a new born, being gigantic. She ended up not coming until new years.

Kayleesmom your US tech makes me angry, what a stupidface. (mature, huh?)

My birth could be in cold weather or beautiful weather. It was amazing out Jan 1st, when I had my last daughter. A perfect perfect spring day. It had been cold the whole week before. I was a bit worried b/c we only have space heaters and a fireplace for the house, so some of it can be a bit cold. But the next two weeks after her birth the weather was amazing.

WE shall see what happens with this one. I am glad not to be big pregnant in the Florida heat, if I had to go through the last months in the weather we have now I would be miserable. My poor friends are huge pregnant right now too.

I had a fantastic visit with my midwife yesterday. Tried to hear the heartbeat with a fetoscope but no luck so I opted for the doppler and it was a wonderful 150BPMs. I can schedule my ultrasound any time now. I'm so excited.

16wk appt today...long.

And everything went pretty well. Sorry this is going to be long, but I need to "tell" people who get it.

I took my list of questions and the midwife was happy about that. She and the other midwife seem great, but I really hope that the one I saw today ends up at my birth. She made me so comfortable.

Huz was there for the first part (had to go back to work) and the midwife didn't mind doing the doppler before he left so that he could hear baby too. Sounded fine, 150-ish bpm. I asked about the possibility of a homebirth, and she said that they didn't do them b/c of their relationship with the doctor's office, which I understand. She did say that the hospital staff is pretty laid-back, and they let you bring a cooler of food/beverages; are okay with the hep-lock instead of IV, and are pretty willing to go along with a birth plan if you make your wishes very clear. So all of that was a relief.

Also talked some about antidepressants, and she agreed to put in a referal for a 20-week ultrasound to "rule out fetal abnormality re. use of antidepressant during 1st trimester." Ugh. Not that we think there's an issue, but this is a good excuse to get an ultrasound paid for by my insurance. I'm only planning on doing this one, so I don't feel too bad about it.

I asked about skipping the GT test (b/c I don't do well with fasting). She said that they don't require you to fast before it, and recommend eating a regular breakfast plus protien. So I'm going to go ahead and do that afterall.

So I guess it went just fine. Thanks in part to you guys, who help me know what questions to ask to get the reassurance I'm looking for. I really wouldn't know what to ask if it weren't for you all guiding me along.

My LAST OB visit!!

I fired my OB today, lol. He didn't seem to believe me when I told him the midwives at the university hospital did VBACs. I feel bad for all his other patients who are being blindly led into believing they have no choice but to have routine repeat c-sections. Ugh. I'm so glad that's not me...

My iron count was 13, my fasting sugars were 82, my blood pressure was 80/50, baby sounded good, measured good, and I'VE GAINED four pounds in just two weeks! Thanks to a med change my appetite has really increased and the cravings have kicked in big time, lol.

My first MW visit is next week, I hope to see my little baby. If not my big u/s should be scheduled in 2-4wks after that. I'm so excited!!

I was born in February and I much prefer cold weather to hot weather! I actually tried to time this pregnancy to be sure I wouldn't be hugely pregnant in the heat of summer. Who knew it'd only take one try!

Great warning to future teenagers though: First time without a condom kids, BAM!

I have to admit that I don't care for how dark it gets in the winter. Hopefully this winter will be a bit different since I won't be working full time. Going to work in the dark, then coming home in the dark really stinks.

justKate and MomtoXane, I'm so glad you both are having good luck with your providers (or your luck is changing ).

---

I had my 15 week appointment today and it went really well. My midwife was precious, she sat and listened to me spill my guts about some emotionally upsetting stuff and suggested some things about my headaches. And she agreed with my PCP's medication prescription for the headaches. Which is good.

I go back in two weeks for the quad screen blood work. She said they can do it in her office so I don't have to go back to the high risk place just for that. So I'm okay with it.

It's been an incredibly crappy few weeks emotionally but hearing the heartbeat today really, really helped me feel reassured.

I'm happy for all of those Mama's hearing heartbeats! It is pretty wonderful! I wish I had a recording of that so I could listen all the time!

I did my prenatal yoga video today and I feel so good! I don't know why I don't do it everyday but i have been lacking motivation. I did sign up for my regular yoga class which starts up again next week so at least I will be doing it twice a week.

I have this total itch to buy baby stuff...mostly diapers. DH keeps telling me its too early. We are going down south in October so I think I will hold off until then and then shop away! My excuse will be having the stores there and not paying shipping!

Had my first ultrasound today - mainly to measure length of my cervix since I had a LEEP. I don't know the results of anything yet but it was awesome to see the little kiddo and see it moving!! Nice to know I'm not just getting fat for no reason. Found out placenta is in front which is what my midwife thought - so probably will take longer to feel some kicks.

The tech said she is "pretty sure" of the sex. When we walked in she was saying she really didn't want to guess or tell us this early (16 weeks 4 days) but we told her we're GETTING MARRIED ON SUNDAY (!!!) and she tried extra hard. We had her write it down and seal in in an envelope and we'll open it this weekend while we're away. Can't wait!!! So I'll have news on Monday. She did say we need to confirm it at our next ultrasound though.

Ugh here comes fall!!! Rain, rain and more rain and then snow, snow and more snow!!! It's been pouring for days here already and ds is going stir crazy. For those of you with children in childcare will you keep them there after the babe is born? I'm thinking of doing this for the first month with ds and then switching him into the preschool at the same center which is fully funded. I think 2.5 hrs per day 5 days per week alone with the babe would be good for us and it would be good for ds to get out and play.

Other than back pain I have been pretty good lately. I even had some coffee and didn't feel like woofing my cookies lol. My chiro is on vacation and the locum stinks! Which is disappointing because she was supposed to be very good and she's a doula.

I'm worried about the Xmas thing because if it is at my house I don't know how I will accomplish all that cooking maybe I could make dh do it though.
I'm hoping that having a late winter babe will mean that by the time it is hot he/she will be able to sit up in the pool.
If you do daycare get him started before babe is born to avoid being sent away feelings, work it up a lot too. Excellent idea IMHO.

Cindy congrats on the wedding, can't wait to hear what you are having.

*grins* We have bought a couple of things. A department store at the mall was having a great clearance sale on baby stuff so we bought a newborn outfit and a "First 4th of July" bib since my family has a big reunion every year. For a grand total of $5.10 it was worth the splurge!

We have received our first gift too. My in-laws gave us a set of receiving blankets.

Hello!

All is well here. I'm having lots of stretching and sore muscles in my belly.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma with my mil. She bought a lambskin rug for the baby - which is a very nice expensive gift - but the problem is I'm morally opposed to having a piece of a dead baby lamb for my baby to lie on (which is really something she should have known). I had actually been looking at the Snugglewool blankets which are made from sheered wool. So I'm hoping I can inform here that I would prefer something like that and not the lambskin. DH said he would talk to her but I don't know if that's the best solution. But I guess I'll probably have him talk to her. It's frustrating because it seems like everytime I see them there is some sort of conflict that involves them not understanding my views. And I always end up feeling like this difficult annoying person.
Gillian28, can you just not say anything and exchange the lambskin for what you want?

Vegan Princess, hope your wedding day is blissful.

This doesn't sound like a battle worth fighting, hon.
Give that piece of dead wee beastie to a local women's shelter for a new mama there! It would be so appreciated. Just not by you.
MIL meant the best, likely.

Oh, my cramping legs! Has anyone experienced charlie horses in their calves during pregnancy? I don't ever remember having these but I've woken up two nights over the last week with cramps. It's awful. I've been trying to stretch out more lately and do more yoga. Any other suggestions?

I'm enjoying a nice lazy Saturday. I just took a long walk with my dogs in the sunshine. It felt so good! I am so happy to have a 3 day weekend!

I now swear by Natural Calm ... a magnesium supplement that Nighten turned me onto. It's calmed my restless legs and leg cramps! I love it!

AKislandgirl, try flexing your foot toward the ceiling -- toes back towards you -- do NOT point your toes. That will make it hurt worse.

And a magnesium supplement definitely wouldn't hurt. Muscles need magnesium to relax. And make sure you're well hydrated before bed. I think that can help prevent the cramps too.

I'm so sorry you're suffering.

ETA: Anyone else have a roadmap on your boobs/belly now? I had forgotten about that and when I got out of the shower yesterday I looked in the mirror and it looked like my toddler had scribbled in blue all over me. *laughs*
