My in-laws live in the Seattle area and we are heading up there next weekend with our 2 year old. We used to live there and have been to Pacific Science Center and the Childrens Museum before, but we have never been to EMP and would like to go on Friday. Is it child appropriate? Max LOVES music, and I'm sure that much of it will be too old for him, but are there some hands on areas that kids would like, or should we go another time when we can get the in-laws to watch him for us?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

We took DS1 last year and it went pretty well. They have a kids room with costumes (if I remember right), a coloring table, a drum kit, books, etc. There's a spot with hands on instruments that was good for kids and adults. And they have small booths you could go in for 10 minutes at a time and there were a couple instruments in there and you could all jam together-that was probably the most fun!

DD and I went there early in the spring of this year. I thought the 'kids room' was rather lacking to be honest. Total waste right there, but this is the band geek in me speaking that thinks there should have been more hands one stuff in the kids area to touch, play, make noise with.
The rest of the building though, we both loved. Sure, some of it was above DD, but for the most part, she was really into everything, especialy displays containing articles from her favorite bands. There is also an area where you can play with drum kits, keyboards, equalizers and guitars. That was very fun for both of us and I am sure your 2 year old would like that.
The Science Fiction museum is attached too, and last I knew, if you bought the ticket for one, you could get into the other free.
I would have taken DD to the EMP when she was 2, but I will say, expect your DS to be kinda bored for part of it. There is just so much history there that there is A LOT of reading.

Thanks! It sounds like it would be worth it. I will prepare myself to be disappointed in the kids room, as a band geek myself! :-)
Thanks for the responses!
