What is with all the vax articales all over the media? - Page 2

I got my weekly e-mail from NVIC today and they say it's related to the recent news that came out about the Gardasil vaccine, which Merck has already made $1.6 BILLION off of so far.

The bad news about GARDASIL vaccine keeps getting worse and it was only a matter of time before government health officials promoted an "epidemic" to deflect attention from GARDASIL risks and create an excuse to point accusing fingers at parents who decline to give their children one or more of the 16 federally promoted vaccines. They did the same thing in 1985, when publicity about DPT vaccine reactions prompted officials at the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics to allege there were whooping cough epidemics in eight states due to parents rejecting DPT. Then as now, the cases of disease were divided between vaccinated and unvaccinated children and adults, which is hardly big news.

All these articles on my msn homepage are driving me crazy too! It seems like a new one every day. It really upsets me because I think it makes vaxers who weren't previously concerned worried about my childrens' non-vax status. So before they let our kids play together without worries, but now they keep seeing articles about negligent parents who don't vaccinate and figure they should be worried about my kids contaminating their kids...

There's nothing medically magical about getting vaxes by two. But since people are more likely keeping up with the well baby visits at that point, it's easier for them to enforce their vaccination policies. It's about convenience for them, IMO.

I find the articles good for a laugh. It seems like there are 2 new articles per day lately. They're not being real subtle, are they? However, if anyone knew about my kids no-vax status, I'd be fuming mad.

People also need to know the real reasons that we don't vax. Autism is only a very small part of it, but it's what they concentrate on all the time.

I have the thinktwice sticker, but I'm too afraid to put it on our car. I've read on lots of forums and heard IRL people say that non-vaxers should have their kids taken away, should be outed in public, etc...it is just too scary to me to identify ourselves that way with people so incredibly aggressive to non-vaxers out there.

And I agree, I cannot stand that the news harps on the autism thing SO much. I would love for some mainstream media outlet to give an informed non-vaxer with good public speaking skills the chance to explain what it it is all about. Of course, I know that won't happen, but...wishful thinking...

Yeah, I keep my kids's vax status to myself ... I don't go out of my way to hide it but even our families would crap a freaking brick, y'know???? And I'm at school all the time with my car, so it really wouldn't do to announce it like that and risk having my kids treated like lepers.

I just don't need the hassle.

For *us* we weighed the benefits and risks and found no vaccines worth getting for our kids at this time. The vaccines have real risks. And most of the diseases your child might actually contract are quite mild.

They push that because by 2 parents realize that their kids aren't going to just drop dead all of a sudden. They are comfortable parenting and less likely to run to the dr. for every little thing. They're also less likely to inject things they know nothing about just because they're "supposed to"

Exactly. I used to be in PR as well. A lot of people don't realize that what comes across as "news" is really just canned PR from the corporations who control the media through their advertising dollars. The pharmaceutical industry practically owns the media. A lot of the so-called experts spitting out the stuff are just pharma reps/doctors/researchers.

When it comes to the schools/government requiring vaxes and pushing them, it is important to note how many congresspeople have worked for pharma or have stocks in pharma. Pharma and the government is a revolving door. It's amazing how many lawmakers are financially connected to the industry.
